Hi Larry, several of us went out today and had a blast.  A few of us had some combat matches while others were tinkering with diesels. The wife really loves it when you smell like diesel. A little speed mixed in as well. It was just too nice of a day to pass all that up. Wife kept dinner warm though. At least she opened the door for me when I came home with no keys. Ken

This is funny to me. I have always reserved the whole Mother's Day weekend for Mothers.  In almost 50 years as an AMA Contest Director I have never CDed a meet on Mother's Day, or even flew toy airplanes or fished on that weekend.  Well there was a time when I was away, keeping the Red Hordes from taking over the country, but that was another thing!

Now, I have never even noticed a sanctioned event on Mother's Day. Well, here in the AMA District VIII there were two events scheduled for the whole weekend. I couldn't believe it. Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's day, well maybe, but having an event or going out for fun on Mother's Day is just not something I could ever do.
Without mothers how could we ever have Grand Kids?  I do love 'em.  y1

I really hated to miss the Dawn Patrol at Bomber Field yesterday and today. Drats!  S?P

Next year I'm naming my plane after the wife.  She'll feel better about me going flying, she will feel that I am taking her along without her actually having to go ......and if I crash I won't feel so bad.

Many years ago, in fact 40,  the group of guys I was flying with, we scheduled a balloon bust and picnick for family.  The wife woke me up and said it is time.   Made a phone call to one of the guys to say I would be late.  Drove wife to hospital and then waited.  They walked up and down the hallway trying to speed it up.  Her Mother was a nurse at the hospital and was there when she got off duty.  I looked out what windows I could see and it the weather looked great.   Then finally about 7PM the doc said it was time.   In a few minutes my son(John Jared alias JJ) was brought into this world.  Somehow forgot all about flying of model planes.  Have not missed a Mothers Day since.
