There is a small group of us that get together in Clanton - about a 2 to 2/12 hour drive north of Ft Rucker. I retired from the Army at Rucker in '87.   Nick

Ahh, good ol' Ft. Rucker.  I'll bet it's changed a lot since I was there, October 1958 to March 1959.  (Note the WWII wooden barracks in the background of this photo.)

As for CL contacts, Tom Morris (Anniston) and Ty Marcucci (Huntsville) will be a couple hours north of you, but worth contacting for those times when you can get away:

On the other hand, y'all could just hit the beer joints in Daleville, Enterprise and Dothan.  Plenty of 'em there (at least there were, 54 years ago).  n~  n~  n~

Up hea, in nawthun Bama, weuns refa to thet there paht of Bama as UCLA, or betta known as the Ugly Corner of Lower Alabama. LL~ LL~ LL~
It's a long way from there to up here in Rocket City. Clanton is much closer and they do have a nice field, capable of four circles, very nice club house, showers, bathrooms, micro wave, refrigerator, etc.  H^^

So Ty your sending him to an R/C field. It has to be as I've never been to a single home field of a c/l club that had a single thing in the way of creature comforts.
I was just at my old R/C field with a nice covered pavilion, large fully equipped kitchen complete with restaurant coolers and stoves. Nice aluminum bleachers and a permanent  metal fence to separate the pit area from the spectator area. More than one port a potty, a pit area to die for, great food and beverages, A fly over zone that is enough to make people from other clubs envious.
And all with only a 10/11k operating budget annually. Hasn't gone up that much since I was president of the club 15years ago

Paul:  Paducah is about 8 hours from Rucker, so most likely not.  That will have to be a gametime decision i.e. how early we're released from class on Friday, threat of weekend recall, ect.

Mike:  I would be willing to bet that they are still there :)

I pinged my FF contacts also, looking for any excuse to commit some type of model aviation whilst down there and faced with a possible deployment in October...

In re FF----Dean McGinnes is in Dothan. Frank Perkins is in Montgomery or Birmingham. You're within reach of Pensacola for Gathering Of The Turkeys.

Isn't this the same Fort Rucker where they train the AH-64 Apache pilots?
