HELP!!! I need a LHS inthe downtown Dallas area.
« on: March 14, 2007, 11:34:46 AM »
Help, please.  Our local hobby shop closed unexpectedly last week.

Fortunately, I drive to downtown Dallas once a week or so for work.  Can any of the Dallas folks turn me on to a local shop in central or northwest Dallas?  I usually drive Decatur-Denton-Dallas Love field, but can easily take 114 from TMS to DFW to Dallas Love.

Thanks for the help.

There's Mike's Hobby shop on the west side, actually in the suburb of Carrollton.  The address is 1201 n I-35E. It's on a one way(south bound) frontage road on the west side of I-35. If you're coming up from the south on I-35 take the next exit after you pass the large rainbow colored grain elevator on the east side of the road.. I believe it's Sandy Lake Road. Here's a shot from Mike's Hobby Shop parking lot looking across I-35. They carry a fair amount of CL accessories and fuel to fit any need.Their phone # is (972) 242-4930. There is a map on their website. www.mikeshobbyshop.com

Thanks, Elwyn.  I found the shop on the way home today (after hours, unfortunately).  I'll make good use of them.

Why is the sky pink?  Is your Texas wind stealing more of our Oklahoma red dirt?

Its the other way around, Ohlahoma wind blowing the red clay into Texas.   You can always tell when you enter Sooner land as the ground turns red at state line no matter witch way you come(just kidding) as Oklahoma does have some pretty territory.   DOC Holliday

The wind was gusting over 40 mph that day but I forget which way it was blowing.

Thanks, Tom.  I will try to make one soon.  I thought I would be flying more last year but the job change pretty much took care of that.  I think this year will be the year.  Some time to fly if not to build.  The grass in the flying circle out back finally is coming in so no excuses now.  Sometime this spring, summer or fall we need to have a North TX, South OK gathering here at our place.  We have one large circle with lots of room for 2-3 more for sport type models- not perfectly flat and only 1/2 the circle mowed smooth enough to take off from.  2.5 hours from Dallas and Oklahoma City, 2 hours from Ft Worth.  If you build it, they will come....will they?

Bruce,
Sounds like a good get together.. Don't forget Gleason's "Fishfly" the last weekend in October every year.

Where I live in Kansas is less than 30 miles from the Oklahoma border. I have lots of friends from Oklahoma and one of them told me the reason it was so windy in Oklahome ;"Texas blows and Kansas sucks". I agree Oklahoma does have some beautiful country. Here is a picture taken between Pawnee, OK and the Kansas line.

I stopped by Mikes on the way to work last week.  What a cool place!  The best part was fuel for $10 plus change a gallon.  I'll be a regular.  Thanks again for the info.

Bruce, If you have a fly-in at your place, give me a heads up. I'd make that drive to come and fly with you and the Texas guys.
Is the Petra still in one piece?

Blessings
Allen
