 .I have an old wing kit given to me today by a good friend. The kit is for an old redwing senior Can someone give me some info on this airplane. thanks.

I can barely remember, but I am thinking it might have been a flying wing design.  Sorry if I am incorrect, it has been a while and I have slept a night or two since then.

the Redwing is a Mackey Design -  Engine in outboard wing panel  - uses 049..

I am prety sure that the Mackey "Redwing" was never kitted.  Perchance, is it a DARWING Sr?

If not that one then I recommend that you still cross check across his plans to see if you can find a match...

Yup, it's a kit by Darwin - the Redwing Sr. wing kit as I recall.  I bought several of them about '55 to '57 as they were really quick & easy to build, then slapped them in simple profiles.  Although I also did one with full fuselage, inverted Fox 35, trike gear.  It was fun to fly and actually something of a crowd pleaser at the time.

I didn't much care for the fuselage Darwin supplied in the full kit - it didn't even have plywood fuselage doublers as I recall.  Makes you wonder if some designers at the time had any idea how much power (and vibration) engines of the day could generate.  Come to think of it, just looking at some of those older kits gives me chills - I have no idea what designers thought would hold control systems or engines in place!

Darwin is most famous for their brass tanks (a bad idea, OBTW), but made a flying wing and a profile kit, and I seem to recall there was a Jr. & Sr. version of each. Ask Ty, he's got all the old model magazines ever printed! I recall that they were advertised as uber deluxe and were quite expensive for the day, maybe even over $6 per kit!  Steve

That is one of the reasons I never had one of their kits.   By the time I could afford them, they were no longer made.
