Most Awesome RC Plane Ever!
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:04:50 PM »
This plane could make me convert to R/C!

This is just the promotional film; I'm not sure just how soon Tower Hobbies will be able to get it in stock.

Brian

PS: I should have stated that this file is just over 8megs and will take some time to load depending on your connection. If you're "dial-up", I probably wouldn't even try.

If the original link does not work, try this one http://www.californiacarclubs.com/switchblade.htm If you get the page, then click on "Try This". I'm not computer guru, so beyond this, I'm not sure what to do.

Now why is it that the FAA wants to regulate RC flying???
AMA 64232

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

You guys are not going to believe this. The company that makes this bird is right down the street from me. And, Igor Patchenko, our local Expert stunt flyer, works for them.

Back in my "RC Pattern Days," (1978) in a Ft. Walton Beach, Fl carport/model airplane shop...A fellow flier, some adult beverages and myself...made crude drawings and discussed in great detail, the feasibility of a system, such as this; using a ship like a "breakdown" Phoenix VIII or a Vertigo, launched on a Co2 catapult...using basically the same control application as the ship in the video. I was told by some "professionals" (club members) who worked at the Eglin AFB Weapons Developement Laboratory that "It was impractical." How's it go? "Hindsite is 20/20." Go figure!

Now if we could get more of them in the hands of our military personal.   I like the little portable rig for flying it.   Maybe Sean M.  could jump in on this.  H^^

Wouldn't open in Firefox for me but IE handled it OK, alternatively right click - save as and download from Firefox seems to work OK.

Interesting stuff, a sort of backpack cruise missile. I like it.

I started out with nothing and still have most of it left.....

Aerovironment, which was founded by Paul McCready, a bonfide genius, has always had some of the most interesting things in the air.  Their string of accomplishments is just amazing, one of their best was a radio controlled pterosaur.  Had the pleasure to meet him once, a very kind and approachable guy.

You know, when they started out, one of the main requirements that they looked for was that, you had to be a kick ass model airplane builder. Seems we have a particularly meticulous approach to our work.

I just tried both links that Brian posted, and both worked (on IE). Chances are that your browser is playing God again. IE does that, sometimes, depending on your settings.

I'm using VLC Media Player, 'cause some don't work on some movie formats, and VLC player seems to work on everything. If I've got it, it must be a free download! Try Googling for it.   **) Steve

Many things that are much more dangerous are available in more places than that.

Having spent some time in "Former Yugoslavia", I've had chances to ponder on the various ways you can use gasoline and LPG.... It is amazing what you can do to a house with those.

If gasoline were invented now, it would never be allowed in the hands of "regular" people.
