More Tri Motor Pics
« on: November 08, 2016, 05:16:56 PM »
Room for 10 passengers, but not for a beverage cart. As the first commercial Airliner it:

Cruises at 107MPH
Range of just over 500 miles
Service Ceiling right at 16000 feet.

That was something back in the day.

My first ever airplane ride was in a Ford Tri-Motor, at age 12. I'll never forget that one.  ;D

Some Lake Erie islands in Ohio were served by Tri-Motor service.....daily runs to take kids to and from school and the like. When I heard that they were going to discontinue using them, I rode out to Port Clinton and took a ride.....way cool!

They are quite noisy though. My wife and kids wouldn't get on it at Port Clinton years ago. My wife made me give her the car keys and my wallet before I flew on it so she could have a way of getting home after it crashed.

Years later, in Florida, my wife and I took a day trip on a nostalgia DC-3 flight to Key West. 20 minutes in #1 engine had to be feathered and we returned to Kissimmee. Haven't been able to get her on a prop plane since for some reason.
