MORE fun in Rescue, CA

I got the chance to drive out to Bruce Malms' place today and try out his field. What a great place to fly! Nice short grass so easy to fly off. Got to see some of the Brodak ARF's for the first time. Even though I elected to bring out sport models that haven't seen the light of day in years and had several problems, I had a great time. It was worth the 132 mi round trip.
 
But get this part. I thought I was going to meet Bruce for the first time, BUT turns out I already did. When I was a kid, like 13 or 14 yrs old, Bruce lived right down the street from me! Even though he was into mostly R/C at the time, I used to stop by and chat or maybe get his help on a model once and a while. He even hired me to babysit his kids a couple of times. I never know his last name back then (or if I did I had forgotten years ago) so I didn't recognise it on this forum. But I sure knew who he was when I got out of my car this morning. What great guy! Thanks for having me, Bruce.

Glad you came up Clint. Next time bring the pattern for my old combat ship and any notes if you still have them.

I believe a few of the guys will be up next Saturday, so I'll let you know.
I'm hoping to get one of them there injections for my back pain so I don't have to take all the pain pills and get so tired.
Goods thing you came up Saturday as Sunday was windy and I had lots of company, as my daughter was home and we did a little shooting and a barbecue with friends. If Hagler wants to come, bring him a long. This time don't leave the keys to your gas cap at home, so you can get here earlier.LOL

All I have for your combat ship is the rib profile and the boom pattern. I don't know the span or rib spacing anymore. I never thought in a MILLION YEARS that I'd run into you again. If I had known, I would have kept better records. Sorry.

Anyway, this Sat. is out for me as it is too close to Easter and we have a lot of prep work to do. Plus, I'm still building that playground in the backyard. But, maybe the week after?

I can remember the spacing so if you make me some copies, I'd appreciate it. Get that play ground finished up and don't worry, the flying season is just beginning and in another month we can fly till 9:30>10:00 at night. Maybe we'll have to install lights on our planes.

I'm hoping to get the hybrid Bermuda grass planted as soon as the ground warms up. It's suppose to germinate in 7 to 10 days, so as the year goes along, i hope to make the field a lot better.

See you in a week or two and later we should be able to get in some flying after work.

About 5 miles. Cameron Park airport, Not sure what the fees are. My Uncle brought in his twin Apache when he came up from Texas one year. Took Teena, Gordon, Kirsten and I on a nice ride around the area.

As a long time "tender" of "Hybrid" Bermuda grasses (Tifton 419 and 328 in particular), here's how they go... 1st year they establish, 2nd year they run, 3rd year get ready to aerify!!  Aerify twice a year and take out plugs about 2 in" long, and be ready to fungicide, syringe, and MOW! LOL!!  As you probably know they will choke themselves out and "get sick or die".

Unless we have a lot of watering system and access to a lot of spraying equipment, we plant common Bermuda.  Tifton grasses (hybryds) always take a lot more care;  watering, feeding, spraying, aerifying, and mowing and their only benefits are smaller leaf size and a normally lower growth height.  Kenan Stadium at UNC-CH (one of he prettiest college Football Stadiums anywhere) was common bermuda for many years, in fact I do not know if they have changed it over yet.  And common Bermuda is more drought resistant, infact almost totally once it is established.  We had to water one field that we spriged (328) for 24 hrs a day for over a week to keep it alive.  Had to do the same with 419 on a field we sodded.  At the course, we had to syringe the greens during the day during the hottest days of the summer.

Thanks for the information. I believe the hybrid I purchased was Sahara but will have to double check. I tried to convince Teena about using common Bermuda, but lost the argument. I did talk to several of the various seed vendors before ordering. I'll do my best to get it going and keep it alive. As I'm planning on moving in 1>2 years, it will just have to do.
