monokote/weight gain
« on: August 08, 2006, 09:24:37 AM »
posted tis on oter site--posting here for more input on weight so i can decide on instaling cockpit or not.

monokote problems causing severe weight gain.
ordered monokote 7 days ago and having a sever case of bordom while wating causes me to look for things that airplanes should have.or mabey shouldnt have.
any one know what weight range this thing should be in?
its a sig chip monk

cockpit details and pilot-under 1oz
wing tip and adjustible guide-1/4oz

also added weight box
adjustable rudder
adjustable side and up/down thrust
adjustable tank

if monokote dosnt arive today the seat might get upolstry

You can figure that Monokote adds 1 gram of weight to each 8.5 sq in of wing area.  Example 850 sq in = 100 grams of Monokote.

thanks for replies

what im after is what is a good finished weight for sig chipmonk.
if its gettin heavy things can be lightened or left off(cockpit)as i finish it.
if im light i can smile.

my current estimate has it coming in at 42oz.

rudderless-i agree with you on monokote vs real finish

in this pic fun planes are monkote
more sreious stuff is paint

Mine is 39.4 oz stock with monokote, trim paint with ultra kote paint. (original paint scheme as on box)...has wheel pants but no pilot/ cockpit, just painted interior light coat of black. Enya .35 is power. You might be real close to you target weight...

is Richard Stubblefield still around--i think hes from your area.I heard Buckstaff went to the great combat circle in da sky.the Wheelers were from houston?
last ama fast combat match i ever flew was in alexandria with Stub in fly off for first/second
the match was flown twice(!!?)killed him both times. still know where my broke airplanes are.rib him for me if you get a chance
i was the crazy hippie kid.

what kinda contest activity is going on in the houston area?as far as i can tell none in louisiana.I may be spending some time in houston area soon and would like to do some flying while there.

would you consider your airplane as heavy-light or medium?

anyone else with sig chipmonk weights and performance?

thanks

David

HI David,

From memory, most Sig S-Cs I have heard the weights on seemed to be right around the low 40 oz. range, 39-45 generally, which ain't bad for a mass production kit that size.  The ones I've seen are good flyers.
