Gentlemen, With all castor fuel becoming harder and harder to find Ive been wondering what would be a good replacement for the Fox 35? I was thinking somthing like an OS Max type of engine, but a not the os 35 stunt of yesteryear.

I'd say the OS FP 20-25 or a Brodak 25 (not as strong as the fp's)would be a good replacement.

Brodak 40. I've been using them in OTS models with sucess for a long time. Power is probably slightly above Fox 35. Availability is problematic

Call Stan at S&W fuels, he'll mix you anything you want. He won't sell me pure nitro anymore so I have to give him a knock for that but he does custom blends.
Replacement for Fox 35? OS Max LA 25.

I get my castor fuel for my old steel cylinder baffle piston Foxes, Enyas, and OS Max engines from Sig. They carry 20% all castor and 25% all castor in a variety of Nitro levels. There's no hasmat fee for quart bottles. You can always call and see if they have what you need in stock. They also sell castor oil if you want to increase the 25% castor to 29% castor for your Fox .35. You can go to this website to find out how many ounces of castor you will need to add to get to 29%: http://www.nitrorc.com/default2.asp?Introduction=http://www.nitrorc.com/fuelws/oilonly.asp Adding enough castor to change a gallon of 25% castor to 29% castor will only decrease 10% nitro to 9.5% or so.
Lou's Brew is reputable (sorry, I don't have his contact info) and will mix whatever you want as well.

Thanks all. I placed a huge 25 gallon fuel order with Sig and only recieved 1/3 of what I wanted. And the order was placed 10 months ago. Perhaps there were other factors involved shipping it here to Canada. I will try again. Another option i was contemplating was to go with a 50/50 blend of castor and Synthetic. Despite the warnings ive heard about it being a no no. Will try again and if that doesnt work i will switch over to the os la.

Brodak 40 and fuel is available from many sources. Sig, Brodak, Red Max and, my favorite, S&W. I expect to have S&W for sale at the NVCL StuntFest.

I’d say OS LA 25 could be the one. Weight-wise, it’s almost identical.
My LA 25 can fly the Banshee, which was designed for FOX 35, pretty well.

Another good option is the Enya SS30 which is their 25 bored out a bit. It also weighs the same as the Fox 35 without the muffler. The supplied muffler is also light so this is a good choice.

I bought a new fox 35 and 29 engine and i plane on using 50/50 oil at 28%

I'd say B.40, but the way they sell replacement parts is scary. Who came up with the idea of selling pistons seperately from cylinders? They should come in one package, as a match set, IMO. I believe Brodak brought in parts and they were assembled in PA, perhaps by Tom Hampshire himself. If I had a B.40 (I don't), that needed fixin', I'd send it to Brodak...or maybe Tom, depending on what it needed. They're said to bolt in where an OS .35S does.
I'm also curious who/where the current Brodak engines are manufactured? At first, the .40's were made by Double Star (aka "Two Star") in Moldova, but apparently DS went out of business. I have an early DS .60bb (Super Tigre clone but ABC) that is truly marvelous. I have no idea where the 1/2a's are made, and kinda curious. The .15 and .25? ??? Steve

I get all of my fuel from Brodak. But have to get it from them on-line. Have been getting 5% nitro - 29% all castor for my Fox and McCoy 35's w/ no issues. Place an order and at my house in maybe 5 days.
BTW I ordered some 5/25 all castor fuel from SIG. Was told that they are out of stock on what I wanted for at least a month.
Think I will stick w/ Brodak.

You might look into mixing your own. Getting all the ingredients isn't very difficult and will be less expensive in the long run. The worst of it is the nitro which you can order from Torco in a five gallon pale. This will make a LOT of fuel-especially 5% Fox mix. Split the cost with your flying buddies if you want. This way you also can mix other blends for whatever engines you have. With fewer commercial suppliers and high shipping costs I expect many of us will be brewing our own in the future.

I totally agree with Jim & Joe that the best engine to replace the Fox Stunt 35 would be a Brodak B 40, the power is a little more than a fox but not much. I’m a big fan of the latest version of the (natural aluminum case) LA .25, more power than a Fox 35 Stunt and simple to set up & run.

I have successfully used a Brodak 40 for many years.
It's the perfect engine to replace a Fox 35, as far as I'm concerned. The weight is almost the same as a Fox 35 so balancing a model designed for a Fox is not an issue. It has a nice break like a Fox as well.
I always referred to it as a Fox 35 that worked and can run on pink fuel.
