Take note of the bottoms!  That is what they looked like when we had hair!

Many notable C/L modelers in this video. Less McDonald, Bob Hunt ( I'm still looking for one of his handles for my collection if anyone has one they might sell reasonable, either in stock form or with the arms cut down like guys used to do to them back in the day), Bob Whitely, Pete Mazur, Jerry "Who" Meyer ( I think??), Phil Wisknewski, Kathy Bernstein and her father (who's first name I can't think of right now), the MIG that can't seem to quite get off the ground was the Able family, father Dave, Dan (who lives near me , still owns that MIG, and pops up at Buder from time to time) and his younger brother, and they have a sister Julie that made a couple of World Championship Scale teams and had a model or two published in the magazines, the Zero and Mitsubishi Bomber pilots I used to know but can't dig it out of my brain right now, Marvin "Big Iron" Denny, and I think Melvin Schutte. I used to be able to pick out a few more, but advancing age has it's pitfalls!! I think all the AMA films are on YouTube now.

Starting at 35 seconds, is that real speed or is the film slowed down?

Airplane is about 33-50%. Whitely's 'stach and hair is 100% on point, but that airplane never flew that slowly.

I knew it had to be slowed down but I've read stories of guys flying close to 6 second laps back in the day so I had to ask.

Yes, that is slow motion. The AMA put a lot of money into that first video series, and used the same people that did the NFL Films features preceded most NFL games on Sundays back then. They were just starting out and they sure made a quality product. You certainly couldn't get anything like that today!!  As Brett points out that's Bob Whitely and his Derringer. It sure would be fun to have one more flying session with RJ!!  I just skimmed through the Celebration of Eagles video and what a collection of all time greats that one has in it!! I watched the interview with Bob Underwood somewhere in the middle and got to hear his smooth voice again. We just lost Bob in the last part of May, and he may have been one of the last of that gathering. Bob was a master scale model builder, and a genuinely exceptional person. he had held just about every job there was at the AMA through the years, from Executive Director on down and he wasn't above sweeping out the place if it was needed! We sure could use more like him now!! A great interview with Jack Sheeks, that is CLASSIC Jack Sheeks!!  I am glad and proud to have met many of the greats in this video and to know a few pretty well.

People say a lot of things.

Aldrich and Palmer had T-shirts that said "the older I get, the better I used to fly".
