VSC Appearance Judging
« on: March 30, 2012, 08:46:34 PM »
So, my sister-in-law took a ton of pictures at VSC. Thought I'd post a few from appearance judging. We've had 6 straight days of rain and are expecting 10 more. Nice to remember what sun looks like.

Well, howdy.  Y'all could always move down here and enjoy 350 days (on average) of sunshine each year.

Randy, enjoy the rain,, we have been setting records ( again) Monday the river through town was AT flood stage, they were concerned it was going to wash out the pedestrian bridge from town to campus,, The city engineer was on hand watching. apparantly it was designed to be a break away bridge and restrained by cables so it didnt float away. We did not get to test it, the bridge never broke free,, and today they are again predicting flood stage water in the river ( which runs right through town) My friends body shop is right in the flood plane about 60 feet away from the river bank. I am really hoping it doesnt flood, I dont want to have to go dig the mud out of the shop and I would have to, since thats where I paint my planes.....

anyway back to VSC,, It was very awesome,, the pictures bring a lot of it right back,, sigh,, now what do I do for a follow up,, sheesh,,
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Mike should have also mentioned that Tucson does not have much humidity or very many bugs.

How many hours of that 350 days (average) can you actually enjoy before your brain is fried from the heat and your sinuses are totally shut down from the dust and lack of humidity?  :) :)

Thanks for the pictures, Randy.  I hope more will be coming soon.  Some of my fondest VSC memories were wandering around the lawn at the Rodeway and checking out all the beautiful models, while discussing the merits of the best ones with Bob Palmer.

Randy,

I'm still on my way back from Tucson.

Went flying with my grandson (Akromaster) on both Saturdays, and painted my
daughter's house in Albuquerque for the remaining time in 75 deg sunny weather (wind in the PM).
I had the plane so nose-heavy that I could do touch and goes on Bermuda grass with ease.
Not enough power to do a loop.

We've gone 4500 miles so far and are headed for Reno to pick up a Roadtrek 170 for the
trip to Brodak this summer.  Then, we're on to Rogue River Oregon for a couple of days. I
think the weed patch in front of my house should be about 4 ft high by then.

So far the Strathmoor is the only casualty; hoping to have it fixed in time for the Walker.
Going to miss the regionals this year.

My challenge is to get a Mars, Strathmoor, Legacy, AA Senior, profile Strathmoor and 80 MPH
combat wing into the Roadtrek and still have room to sleep.

Is it possible to make a model of Burt's plane (Pima Air Museum) that would fly with
both flabs and a Canard ?

I should be in Auburn by next weekend. Anyone flying at the airport ?

Take it from the old DOC, you don't need flaps on a canard.   The front movable surface is enough.

First week back from Tuscon after driving the last 150 miles in rain, did crossing duty in the rain.   Also freezing rain leaving Arizona in the Texas Canyon area.  Some areas are in need of rain.
