Team Selection Program for 2010 World Championships
Contest Information – Entry Blank

I – Purpose
The Control Line Precision Aerobatics Team Selection Program for 2010 will consist of a single team selection contest (Finals) to be held on Labor Day Weekend of 2009. The Finals shall be used to select the three team members in the Senior Division and one team member in the Junior Division to represent the United States at the 2010 FAI F2B World Championships. An alternate team member for the Senior and one for the Junior Division shall also be chosen to compete if a team member is unable to participate in the World Championships.
II – Qualification
Contestants must be members of the AMA; they do not need an FAI stamp. Senior entrants must be 14 years of age. Junior entrants must not become 19 years of age during the calendar year of 2010. (USA team members selected are required to have an FAI stamp to compete in the World Championships).
III – Entry Fees
The program entry fee is $100.00 for Seniors and must be sent to AMA Headquarters, postmarked no later than 30 days (July 30, 2009) prior to finals. (Caution: allow 10 days for mail delivery). A late entry fee of $125.00 may be accepted at the Finals site the day prior to the contest.
The Junior entry fee is $50.00 and must be sent to AMA Headquarters, postmarked no later than 30 days (July 30, 2009) prior to finals. Late Junior entry fee is $60.00 on the site.
Any Senior and Junior entry fees collected on site must be forwarded to AMA Headquarters by the Contest Director immediately after the contest.
Refund request will be honored if such request is received at AMA Headquarters no later than two days prior to the first day of the finals.
IV – Contest Site and Dates of Competition
The location of the Finals will be Muncie, Indiana at the AMA Headquarters International Aeromodeling Center. The dates will be September 5, 2009 (Saturday) and September 6, 2009 (Sunday) with a rain/weather date of September 7, 2009 (Monday).
The event will start each day at 8:30am (subject to change by the Event Director).
V – Rules in Effect
Rules of the Finals contest shall be in accordance with the current FAI Sporting Code, except where superseded by the Team Selection Committee, the Event Director, the Team Selection Jury, or as noted in the Contest Information. Contestants are urged to read the FAI Sporting Code.
VI – Administration
1. Team Selection Committee - Responsible for the planning and format of the Team Trials. Committee functions end at the start of the contest, at which time the Event Director is responsible for the administration of the event.
2. Event Director – Shall have complete charge of the administration of the Team Trials at the site.
3. FAI Jury – appointed by the AMA Executive Council and shall preside at the Finals.
4. Contest Personnel
1. Event Director – The administrator of the contest.
2. Head Judge – May be appointed at the discretion of the Event Director
3. Judges – selected by the Team Selection Committee.
4. Tabulators – Will be supervised by the Event Director.
5. Timer – There will be a timer for each flight other than on of the judges.
6. Pit Boss – Will supervise the flight lines.
7. Pull Tester – Will perform a pull test before each official flight.
VII – Format of the Contest
1. Qualifications – Saturday - Seniors
1. Two official flying circles, three judges per circle.
2. Participants seeded by the Event Director.
3. Two official flights before each set of judges, in the following sequence: Group 1 – Circle A, B, A, B; Group 2 – Circle B, A, B, A.
4. Flying order determined by the Event Director for each round.
5. Order of finish determined by adding best one flight from each circle.
6. Pilots with ten highest overall scores will advance to the Finals on Sunday.
7. Scores will not be carried over from Saturday to Sunday.
2. Finals – Sunday – Seniors
1. One official circle.
2. Six judges, as per FAI procedures.
3. Ten flyers to participate based on scored from Saturday qualifications.
4. Flying order determined by the Event Director for each round.
5. Three official flights by each contestant.
6. Order of finish determined by adding best two flights.

1. One official circle.

VIII – Scoring
1. Scoring will be in accordance with FAI rules in effect for the 2010 World Championships.
IX – Official Flights, miscellaneous information
1. Seven minute time limit for an official flight.
2. No appearance points.
3. A flight is official once an airplane is airborne.
4. Each contestant will have two attempts for each official flight.
5. An Attempt will be called if the model is not airborne within three (3) minutes of the starting signal from the pilot.
6. Line length may not be more than 21.5 meters.
7. There is no Builder of the Model rule in effect.
8. From the FAI Sporting Code, “Before each contestant is called to fly a test load of 10 times the total weight of the model without fuel shall be evenly and smoothly applied to the assembled control handle, lines and model. The load used in this test shall be accurate within a tolerance of plus 0% minus 10% and shall be applied once only to the control handle in such a way that the test load is equally distributed between both flight lines/cables throughout the complete test.”
9. From the FAI Sporting Code, (Par. 1.4.2) “Weight – the weight taken to determine the minimum loading and minimum weight is that of the complete model in flying order but without fuel.”
X – Pilots’ Meeting
1. There will be a Pilots’ meeting on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the AMA Headquarters building. The time will be posted at the flying site by the Event Director on Friday no later than 12:00pm Noon.
XI – Warmup Flights
1. There will be warmup flights for the judges on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at times posted at the flying site by the Event Director.
2. Warmup flights must be performed by non-contestants, or by eliminated contestants, unless the Event Director deems it necessary to utilize a contestant.
XII – Judges
1. The six judges selected by the Team Selection Committee (per I-A-c of the World Championship Team Selection Procedures Booklet) will be placed on the qualifying circles by the Event Director.

2. Six Judges for Sunday Finals of Seniors. Judges for theSunday Finals for Juniors will be selected by the Event Director.
3. Judges shall not look at posted scores during the contest.
4. Judges shall attempt to be upwind from the competitors during the entire flight for judging.
5. Judges may or may not use a recorder. If they choose to use a recorder, the judge shall speak softly to the recorder so as not to be heard by other judges.
6. Judges’ scores are subject to publication in Stunt News.
XIII – Tabulation of Scores
1. All tabulation will be supervised by the Event Director or an Appointee.
2. Contestants shall not enter the tabulation area for any reason.
3. Contestant’s duplicate score sheets become the property of the contestant when the Event Director releases them from the tabulation area.
4. Scores will be posted as soon as possible after tabulation.
XIV – Contestants’ Conduct
1. Contestants shall not talk to judges at any time during the contest on the subject of scores, maneuvers, other contestants, judging procedures, or anything pertaining to the conduct of the contest.
2. Contestants shall avoid unnecessary contact with judges on the field while the judges are working.
3. Official protest must be lodged according to the FAI Sporting Code and AMA procedures. Attention is called to “World Championship Teams Handbook” item I-F-2, “Subjective scores given by judges are not protestable.”
XV – Contestants’ Knowledge of the Rules
1. It is the responsibility of the contestant to be aware of the FAI Sporting Code rules governing F2B (Control Line Precision Aerobatics).
2. Some rules in FAI competition are different from the usual AMA rules which govern Nationals and Local contest.
3. “FAI Sporting Code” books are available form the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
XVI – Budget
1. All entry fees and donations will be held in an account at AMA Headquarters.
2. No more than 50% of the total entry fees collected may be used for Finals expenses.
3. Requests for advancement for Finals expenses may be permitted with approval of the Team Selection Committee. All funds must be accounted for in detail, accompanied with receipts. (This includes advances for officials’ expenses.)
4. Any reimbursement for officials (including travel and lodging expenses) will be made by AMA Headquarters upon request by the Event Director. This request may be made before the completion of the Team Trials. The request must

contain itemization of expenses and receipts where necessary; report must be approved by the Team Selection Committee. If possible, the Event Director should submit an expense budget to the Team Selection Committee before the Finals.
5. Funds remaining in the Team Fund may be used for the following team expenses:
1. Travel expenses not paid by AMA
2. Vehicle rental
3. Meals for the official practice days
4. Other expenses approved by a majority vote of the Team Selection Committee.
6. A budget must be submitted to the Team Selection Committee by the Team Manager prior to the disbursement of Team Funds.
