For all former military, what is the correct location for insignia of rank and what branch of the service that you served in.
I served in the 8th Air Force S A C in Amarillo Texas from 18 Nov 60 -- thru 17 Nov 64.
I have a Flight Jacket that I want to put an 8th A F emblem on the sleeve and a S A C patch on the chest, so any help will nice, I am asking Ty Marcucci and Norm Faith, as well as all other members that served..

When I retired in 97, name tag (with rank) on left breast, ACC patch on right breast. Squadron patch on left arm/shoulder, wing patch on right. When I was in MAC/AMC prior to that it was the same except we wore the American flag on left sleeve/shoulder. You wore either your squadron or wing patch on the right. I believe that is still current. USAF if that was not obvious. In 92 when McPeak became USAf Chief of Staff, there were huge changes. Among those, MAC became AMC and SAC and TAC were combined to become ACC (Air Combat Command).

You might want to google it. It has been a long time and right now all of my patches are under the ld of a box, but I think I remember the command patch on the right breast (in my case TAC) and the Air Force (I was in the 4th) on the left under a flag and my squadron patch on the right. We weren't much into patches.

I too was in SAC at Altus 11th Abn Msl Maint Sq. 20 Aug 1962 to 19 Aug 1966. SAC patch on the left side.

Hi Gil, here is a “bunch” of examples of how our insignias were worn. SAC patch on the right breast pocket, squadron patch on the left breast pocket. Master Technician, top left shoulder, name on top of right pocket, USAF on top of left pocket.

The old green fatigues were replaced quite a while ago by the BDU and the Desert BDU. If you want new, try looking for those.

Not to hijack but I wanted to buy a set of Air Force fatigues from the late 70's era (solid olive drab). Been looking everywhere but can't find a seller, not one my size anyway. I though there would be some kind of military contractor for clothes. Any help?

Pretty sure my wife and I both have at least part of our solid color fatigues. While we were both commissioned, she was assigned to the Air Base group while I was in one of the tenant organizations. I really never wore the OD fatigues and never did put on the O3 insignia.
I was around 142lbs back then so surely couldn't fit into it now.

My 1970 basic training fatigues and 1972 jungle fatigues are important souvenirs to me.
I'm sort of glad they're not too easy to get now.
