Adjust Flaps?
« on: January 16, 2016, 03:28:02 PM »
Building my first full fuselage plane and I see a hatch on planes to adjust the elevator but is there a way to adjust the flap push rod length ect once everything is together?

Thanks,
MM

Generally, no. Set the bellcrank-flap pushrod length to get neutral when the bellcrank bisects the nominal leadout position, or, if your bellcrank is not corrected for geometry, about 1/4 of the way between the "parallel to the centerline" to the point the bellcrank bisects the leadouts. Once I think I have it right, I plot out the angle of the flap WRT the differential leadout position, so the rate of motion is as close to possible to linear between +-15 degrees.

Yes, the same way you build up and make access for the elevator push rod. Why would it be different or difficult to do?

You don't need to adjust the flap throw independently -- you can do that at the handle.  At the plane, you just need to be able to adjust the flap-elevator ratio.

I think that a Paul-Walker style flap tweak is a worthwhile thing to do, which is why it's being built into my latest build (my ever-so-long stalled build, but still).

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Yeah Tim, What happened to that build.  It was coming along well I thought!  Then just stopped!

Stuff.  Lots of stuff.  First work, then getting Paul Walker's Atlantis that needed some attention before it was ready to fly, then building & repairing lots of planes for my wife.

I'm almost done with the second trainer plane for my wife, and we're going to have rain for 39 days and 39 nights.  So I may make some progress on that build -- there'll be pictures if so.
