Trying to get a waiver from the FAA. Should know one way or the other by tomorrow. If we can't get the waiver it will be held at the GSCB field. Four classes of PAMPA and one class of Old Time.

Jim Vigani has experienced more grief than probably any CD the past two years. Imagine the FAA lumping control line flying with radio controlled models of every type.
Just unbelievable.
Flyers in Central and Northern NJ have it worse than anywhere else in the nation. In July, radio flying halted because of TFRs for a total of eighteen days.
Now it's August- already a TFR issued for Aug 2-13 at all radio fields within 50 miles.
Reason ?- the President just can't seem to get enough of his estate/golf course in Bedminster, NJ.
Now before guys start saying, "we'll who cares, it's R/C ", we have R/C fields that allow control line. R/C fields are a perfect venue. Wide -open, clean air.
THE FAA seems to have gotten things pretty mixed up.
Wonder from whom.
Can we say AMA ?
************************* P.S. - JIM will pull it off ! The contest WILL go on !*************

I seriously doubt that blame lies with the AMA..... they have been clear and have lobbied to keep control line flying out of the NOTAMs.
And a lot of FAA reps that I have talked with agree.....this issue is that lower level FAA and Secret Service types have only been told that model airplanes can't fly in restricted airspace. Like most law enforcement people that I have known, they tend to err on the side of caution. I doubt that there is a bulletin that explains the difference between RC and CL, even though the AMA has efforted to do so.
Have fun!

Even if they know the difference, the North Branch field is primarily R/C. Easier for them to just shut it down completely rather than to make exceptions.

Hi Rich :
I have yet to see one scintilla of evidence in writing that supports your assertion. The AMA has known about this particular situation and has punted the matter back to the CD to iron it out with the FAA.
Cheers !

A couple of weeks ago I read two articles in the Asbury park news . AMA rep Eric Williams was making the case for the RC fliers but never mentioned controline once in either piece. Makes one wonder? George
