spools and copper crimps

  Not sure about where to post, so here goes, I am looking for about 4-5 of the smaller line spools like Sig lines come on, also looking for some 1/16"x1/2" copper tubing to crimp these lines with.
I am gonna try some "Spectra" lines on smaller type models with .099-.15 size engines.
  The lines are supposed to be good up 30lbs of pull..
  All suggestions appreciated...

Probably a personal thing but I like the reels Brodak and Tom Morris sell better than SIG. The cut-out goes in and under which allows me to tuck the starting line ends inside the reel rather than have them hanging out the side.

Not sure if this is what you are planning to do, but I am pretty sure it is not a good idea to be crimping Spectra lines.  I bought some of the Spectra to try out at some point.  I will do some research first because I understand there is a special knot for making the terminations.

On the line reels, I do the same as Bob Reeves mentioned.  If I have any spool that does not have the starting hole into the center, I drill one.

I sure hope that you are not planning to crimp Spectra lines!

Do a search here, or ask Phil about the proper ends and tying them...

As I remember, Phil Cartier did an extensive research on multifilament lines  and reported here on this forum.

Items:
The knot takes 50% of the line strength so count on the strength of ONE line as the strength of your set.
The kind of knot used does not make too much difference but he recommended the Palomar Knot. Google it and you will get lots of illustrated instructions on how to tie it.

Iīve been using multifilament lines on 0.15 size e-planes following these recomendations for over a year now. NO PROBLEMS at all.

I donīt use a thimble. The palomar knot is tied directly at the clips.
