While most of the country is knee deep or more in snow, Miami is sunny, and bright. This type of cloud formation is rare here so I thought I'd show a little of it.
-
Mr. Garf,
I've just spent two hours fighting
with a snow blower.
What I want to say to you is.....
"ThhhhhhhhhhhPPP!" <=

Enjoy your white Christmas. I will probably be flying with no jacket.

Well,
We do sometimes where hats with backs to protect your neck from the sun.

When the temperatures in Miami drop below 60 deg F (15 deg C), most the Floridians there wear overcoats. LL~

Same in Arizona - although light jackets usually suffice. Generally, anything less than 80F is unacceptable.

Yep, first 65 degree day in Scottsdale and the ladies are dressed for a Nor'easter when they walk the dog.

Roberta and I spent the day riding and, like Garf, saw some really neat cloud formations but it never occured to me to take pictures of them.
We also spent a little time at the "Bay of Pigs Memorial" in the Tamiami Airport. That whole thing is a big deal down here and I'm always proud to see the name Capt. Gustavo Ponzoa printed on the side of the A-26 on display. For many years Gus was a customer of mine at Orange Blossom Hobbies.

Our weather forecast for the week looks promising.

The thing I like is the fact that at 70 degrees the girls still strut around in bikinis!
(sadly they are mesmorized with their mobile phones)

Sending selfies to the Jive Combat Team. We're deluged with them.

Last time I was in Florida was over Christmas vacation at Disney World at Orlando. The last day we about froze our rears off is was so cold. Spent New Years eve in Chatanooga on the way home.

Miami weather gets strange this time of year. We have a hurricane coming down hurricane alley (carribean), but right now it is raining and the sun is shining at the same time.

That could mean you're at the End of the Rainbow - better start digging for that crock of gold!

Hurricane Danny is about shot, but there are 2 more disturbances following close behind. Sooner or later something will hit us.
-
Now it's Erika. The forecasters think it will hit Miami. The only question is how strong will it be when it gets here.
-
Its way too early to tell where Erika will go .... but HRWF has the best record of any tracker, and it shows it will fizzle into the atlantic without landfall.
I'll pay attention when its 1 day away ....

The "forecast cone" started as going up the east coast, then it was a direct hit, then going up the west coast. This storm is still going due west. I really don't think the forecasters know anything. Thing is you cannot afford to take anything for granted but must prepare every time for the worst case scenario. Every June we inspect all hurricane supplies and replace whatever is necessary be it batteries, water, food, etc. I got a flat 2 days ago and had to replace 2 tires. They were 11 years old.
-
Garf,
How do you get tires to last 11 years? I can't get a car to last 11 years?
My wife's Jetta wagon needs tires, two anyway. What brand did you use?
I'll start my generator today, just in case we get that storm.
Wife said I should put my models outside. n~

Guys,
On the east coast just north of West Palm Beach we had a flying hurricane party before Erika whimpers through. Had a great day.

I'm retired and don't drive much anymore. The brand is Goodyear.

Right now things are quiet in Hurricane Alley. I wonder for how long?
-
We have had a couple of minor systems come and go, but so far nothing of any consequence. Time will tell about the rest of the season.
-
We now have category 2 hurricane Joaquin approaching the east coast. It has winds of 105 MPH and is forecast to go higher. They say it will turn north in 2 days. They have been wrong many times. It is supposed to hit the east coast between North Carolina and New York. Why is it I doubt it. With Hurricanes, you never really know where they are going till they get there. I have seen them do some really strange things.
UPDATE: As promised, the winds are up to 125 MPH. Direction is still in question.
-
The storm is headed north so Miami is out of the woods. It still has 130 MPH winds.
-
The storm is headed NorthEast with winds of 155 MPH and gusts to 190 MPH. It is away from the coast so they will get a lot of rain but little wind. It is traveling at 16 MPH.
-
Joaquin is down to 100 MPH winds and is traveling to the NNE at 13 MPH. The rains in the Carolinas should be easing soon.
-
Joaquin is headed out to sea. It will now be someone elses problem. It's still raining in the Carolinas, but it should soon stop. Flooding is pretty bad.
