Post by: Mike Griffin on December 11, 2014, 04:21:31 PM
Was working on the Tutor in the shop today and listening to Dean Martin singing my favorite Christmas songs.  It just doesn't get much better than that.  Love to listen to him Sing.

Nice!

My " get to work" song when I sit down to the building table is "more than a feeling " by Boston. My"get pumped" song that I put on while driving to the field is a cover of "Land of Confusion" by Disturbd, though I do enjoy the original Genesis version too

Dean Martin became a great singer when he dumped that clown Jerry Lewis and got down to some serious music.   Matt Helm was good. too.  And fembots?

My selection of building music is highly dependant on what transpired between 8 and 5 each day.  It usually ranges from Pink Floyd and the Beatles to Tool, A Perfect Circle, or Alice in Chains.

If you guys could see my CD rack as well as the cassettes plus 8 tracks you would wonder about my music.   Anyone ever heard one called Black Land Farmer.   Another one is Does Your Chewing Gum Loose Its Flavor On The Bed Post Over Night.    There is a lot of country, blue grass, early rock and roll  plus gospel.

The three "Bs" for me: Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. Tchaikofsky, Saint Saens and Mousorgsky to fill in the gaps and perhaps some Bizet, Bernstein and Williams to brighten my day. I find new gems all the time on Sirius XM.

Years ago I walked into a Towers Records store and asked "Where would I find your CDs of Dean Martin so I can get his Christmas album?"

Towers Record person (teenager) with astonished look on face: "Ahh, why?"

I still laugh when I recall that.

What, no traditional jazz?  George Lewis's All-Stars (Panama Rag), Lu Watters's Yerba Buena Jazz Band (High Society) or if you're English like me, Chris Barber's Jazz Band (Chimes Blues).  Maybe nostalgia isn't what it used to be, but that stuff still takes me back to the days of my youth.
