I was unaware that McCoy made diesel fuel till I saw this partial picture in my travels.

McCoy made a very nice .049 diesel engine. I don’t know if they made other sizes.

As I recall, they also made an .09 or .099 diesel. They looked rather like an Atwood .049, except for the red anodized fins/head. Probably would run well with a bit extra ether, to reduce the compression required? Any chance that Bill Atwood conspired with Dick McCoy on them? D>K Steve

I understand that the crankshafts were rather weak.

The second iteration with beam lugs was supposed to be better. A lot of good info on the web-Adrian Duncan(?) reviews of the McCoy diesels.

I picked up a McCoy .09D from Stanton Hobbies a long time ago. The crank failed the first run.

That diesel fuel is new to me as well.
Would like to know the formulation, if anyone has that information?
The McCoy .049 diesel was my first good half-A engine.
It was promptly mounted on a new AJ Firebaby, and was flown on home made fuel (Old English equal parts mix) until the FireBaby went through several replacement wings. Eventually, the fuselage got so fuel soaked it gave up as well, and we never saw a replacement fuselage where we bought the wings.
I have several of these engines now, and have run a couple of them on the bench many times, with no failures at all. Also ran them on Aerodyne diesel fuel, and again no failures. Think I also tried some Red Max diesel fuel, with no problems.
Read some where that the crank weakness was addressed early on, in the first model production.
