Title: McCoy 19 red head
Post by: Steve Kientz on March 07, 2007, 02:38:25 PM
  My LHS has aMcCoy 19 red head on consignment. It's mounted to a small solid winged( racing?) airframe. Is this engine worth buying as a wallhanger?I was told by a counterperson he thought it was a McCoy built by Cox.

Thanks
Steve

HI Steve,

I wish I could give a "simple" answer, but I can't.  Is it a rear intake?  Is it a "Lighting Bolt" case?

The rear intake will be the one that would bring the highest dollar, but that all depends oncondition, etc.

Guess it all comes down to how much they want for it, and how much you want it! ;D

BTW:  Cox never made the McCoys, but Testors did buy out McCoy and "marketed" them.

Bill
thanks for the info,will take a second look later this week. If I decide to buy it will have to post a picture to be able to identify the airframe.

Thanks again
Steve

Speculation: If it's a small solid winged model, it is probably a class "A" speed plane with a RR McCoy .19. But then, it may be a Flite Streak Trainer with a front intake McCoy .19. OR even a Testors Trainer (weren't they solid winged?), or...      ::) Ain't speculation fun!

Let us know!

  Looked at it today.Front intake,no lightening bolt on case. Airframe has a solid wing with fixed flaps,maybe 26" wingspan.The front of the fuselage is something i've never seen,engine is mounted to bearers that seem to be separate pieces.If anyone is interested drop me a line and I'll give you the LHS phone #.

  I have no pictures,and the LHS has no info. I do know it's on consignment,was bought at a garage sale or an estate sale. They are asking $65 firm.Too rich for a wallhanger of unknown origin.

Steve;

  As a collector I have been watching this thread with some interest, but that engine, no lightning bolt, no rear intake etc. you have made the right decission and left it hanging where it is, it is not worth $65.00. Someone may come along and think it is, I wish the LHS good luck.

Steve;

   Now this is what I would call a "Collectable Wall Hanger":

   The answer to the question in your mind is YES I am thinking about this one  LOL
