Title: Mark the day
Post by: john e. holliday on March 02, 2020, 07:19:07 PM
The old DOC got out and fired up a couple of engines, infact three engines.   The first is what I call a jewel of an engine because of its look.  The COX 15 Olympic was bought back when Good year racing was being thought of.  Before I could run it the event went a different route.  The second is an EBAY purchase that runs great.  A McCoy Redhead 35 that I won on a low bid.  The other engine is on my 38 Special that hadn't been flown for at least a decade.  Took a lot of work to clean the plane and the  OS 40.   After running the engine for a tank of fuel I noticed there was hardly any wind.  I loaded up the van and headed to the field.   Once lines and stooge were rolled out fired up the engine.  Had a couple of false starts because of nose overs.  Finally pu a longer clip on down line.  Then it was getting a needle.  After the fuel system was finally cleaned and hooking up muffler pressure got a flight on the 38 Special.  Only one flight as the sun was setting and it was getting cool.  Now to get an earlier start next time

Thanks, it is now corrected.  Give me back the Smith-Corona. D>K.

Hey Doc, good job on getting out before spring really sets in! Especially like your 38 Special.

I do have a favor to ask. If someone told you that you are a DIC-head, I could use some help with my Chevy Sliverado. On the DIC display, it keeps telling me that I have a flat tire. I don't. Everything is pumped.  And it won't seem to reset or....?  As an expert in DIC, what would you recommend?

Put black tape over the indicator.  Really take it to the dealer before something bad happens. D>K

The "flat tire" light means nothing.  Mine has been on for years, and the tires are fine.  Another useless feature.

Doc,  Nice engines and plane,    Keep a close eye on that  C-CLAMP   vibration is not a good thing for c clamps....

You could have a failed sensor at one of the wheels Have the sensors at the wheels checked Did you check the spare tire? it may have a sensor in it also

Both of my air pressure sensors on my front tires failed on the same day.  I get a left front flat tire warning going 70mph.  I tighten my grip on the wheel and slow down heading for the apron.  Everything still felt fine when it hit zero.  Then the right front "went flat".  So I stop at my tire dealer and they are fine.  Are the planned failure specs that accurate on such a small part"  How did they get both to fail at the same time?

Probably depends on the type of sensors used but on my car (Miata, no spare) it's triggered by the ABS detecting that a wheel is rotating faster than the others. Normal tyre pressure is 29psi and I believe it triggers at 20psi.

I believe they have a built in battery that goes dead with time..  Supposedly you should replace the senders with a new set of tires.   More $$$$$$$

Thanks, Doc, for your expertise on DIC.  I was a little skeptical about your repair suggestion---but it works!  It just takes some skill with the xacto knife to cut a small piece of black electrical tape that goes right over the orange tire symbol. It's genius.  With the money you just saved me, I can probably buy enough covering to finish my own 38 Special project. Thank you!

Now, do you also happen to be an expert on cookstoves? You see, if I plug mine in, it randomly starts this loud, annoying beeping just like a car alarm and the display (I don't know if Magic Chef has a DIC or not) then starts flashing "FU. FU. FU. FU......."

Keep 'em flying in Kansas!

Know nothing about cook stoves except when power goes out the stove won't ignite the burner.   ???

Ron, yes I do keep an eye on the C-clamp.  A piece of wood between it and the saw horse helps a lot. H^^

Chances are very good that any automotive or appliance troubles are covered by a half-dozen YouTube videos. Some are better than others.

For tire pressure sensor weirdness, I'd suggest an appointment at Discount Tire.  y1 Steve
