Post by: Paul Taylor on June 13, 2009, 08:15:42 PM
We had a major storm blow thur yesterday afternoon. Power has been out for over 24 hrs now. Makes is hard to sleep when sweat is running off you. I forgot how hot it is at night with AC. Looking for some cooler temps next week at Brodaks.

Wait until Cap and Trade starts.  No one will be able to afford to run the A/C.

Think it's hot there? Try Miami after a hurricane. Been there several times.

Been ABSOLUTELY beautiful this week, and we've got a lot of flying done, and I can easily see I've improved.  Last flights were today, and tomorrow we pack, and Tuesday, we hit the road!!!  Temps have been in the 70s, perfect, and not much wind

We just got power back right after church this morning. (The power of Prayer) y1

It was in the low 90's Friday and Saturday and no cool breeze. We did get lucky and a friend of the family brought us a generator late yesterday afternoon. We were able to run a few fans, and keep the frig cold. The meat that thawed was cooked today. Tomorrow we have fish. Yum Yum.

I 2nd Phil's position. FL after a hurricane, power out, clear and hot since you are on the backside of the storm, and plenty of water laying around to make sure the humidity stays in the 90% range.
Without A/C I don't know how they survived down there - but when you look at old pictures of Florida residents there are not a lot of overweight people - mostly skinny, sun burnt and tired looking folks.

Hope you and everyone else has beautiful weather in PA for the meet- wish I could be there, but I'm pretty well addicted to my paycheck and can't get there this year.

Good luck and stay chilly!

As I sit here reading this post it hits me I must be getting old.  I can remember when my Grandma would take me with her and Aunt Ollie to the movies because the theater had a new fangled thing called air conditioning.  The car had vents under the dash you could open for air to pass thru the car with windows rolled down.  No radio either.

I remember the pedistal fan Grandpa brought home to move the air in the house when it got too warm.  Grandma first thing in the morning would close all the windows and shades to keep the sun out.  Then when that side of the house was out of the sunlight she would open them again to let air circulate.

Of course the high light was summer time or when warm enough us boys could sleep on the front porch.  Didn't have to worry as neghbor boys where on their front porch or with us.  No drive by shootings and no one got upset if we ran around in our skivvies.

Now I am thinking of getting AC recharged in the vehicle and the central air is on.  Hasn't even reached 90 yet.  Having fun,  DOC Holliday

It topped 90* some time ago here. Last Sunday was supposed to be some sort of record. High temps, high humidity, little wind. Summer in Miami.

Too hot?  Too cold?

Well...  Imagine a place with no hypothetical situations.  And put me in charge of the thermostat.  Hell, put me in charge of everything.

Dinner!

Boneless chicken thighs (how do they walk?) and a batch of rice and if'n everybody behaves?  Asparagus!  Le'me just wash this oil mixture off of my grubby hands.  Maybe that blue stuff is Loctite.  Under my fingernails.  Maybe it came from my nose.  Yuck.

I do more than aeroplanes.  But, don't spread it all over the internet.

Oh, and btw?  My new ST 46 plane was wonderful, and my SE5 with an LA 46 (replacing the Tower 40 that just isn't quite broken in) was not half bad.  Flew with the SLOW guys on Sunday.  Felt guilty taking up circle time.  They're all preparing for Carrier at the Brodak event.  I'll be there, but no one has to gloat over besting my score this time.  I know, it's just my imagination that anyone would.

Now...  Getting back to that place with no hypothetical situations where a sidewalk goes from here to Sandra Bull - it goes downhill from here.

PS:Don't pick on Sandra B.  as she is my sweet heart.  jeh

Next time you have no power and it is too hot to sleep here is a couple of suggestions you can do. First you will need to keep a couple of things on hand just in case.
1.  Sheet of plastic large enough to cover the mattress on your bed.
2. A couple of extra bed sheets, Twin size should do just fine and are easier to work with.
Then what you do is cover your mattress with the plastic sheet to protect it from getting wet. Next fill the tub with cool water. Soak a couple of sheets sin the tub.  When you go to bed and can't sleep, go and wring out one of the sheets   soaking in the cool water. Wrap the cold sheet around you and it will keep you cool to sleep. When the sheet drys out throw it back in the tun and get the other sheet that has been soaking, wring it out , wrap up again and back to sleep you go. That is how they use to sleep in Phoenix before A/C was available. Worked great.
Good luck and hope your power doesn't go out too often.

It's great here in western Illinois on the Mississippi River, 77 degrees and 81% humidity... oh it's 0415. Seems like it's raining every day 4.45 " so far this month.
