After posting the Gruntster for the day.....I couldn't help but wonder......could our Leo Mehl and Jack Shane...be connected in some way?
Check the color of both of these beauifully designed and built extremely light weight stunters?
Both are painted bright orange...and finally....THE CAAAAAAW-BOY HATS!!!
HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM? ARE THESE SOUL-BROTHA'S OR WHAT?
-
Nah. 0ne wears glasses. One is a bad guy and the other is a good guy. You can tell by the white kaboy hat. Learn that in a Roy Rogers flick one saturday back in 1949. LL~
Yes...That would make Capt. Leo----KING OF THE KAAAABOY'S...and Shane...Hummm? Check the name of his airplane "DEVIL WOMAN! YEH! Jack must be baaaaaaaaaaad to the bone!
but then again...I found another baaaaaaazzzzakward flyer that went to the school of Leo Mehl. I wonder if he too might have been related in some weird way? Hummm, makes ya go hummm?
Check out Gene Schaffer's model...he too has the leadout on the wrong wing!

These guys look like some pretty mean stunt desparados if you ask me. Don't know about you, but, I would check to see if there is a bounty on these two hombres!! :!

Let me share this: When I was a little bittee' first grader....I LOVED ROY ROGERS, GABBY HAYES..(who looked just like my Grandfather) and I was in Love with DALE EVANS and couldn't pass up all those grade D- Sat. afternoon matinee's. Yep! Good guys always wear the white hats... LL~
Hummm?
Didn't the LONE RANGER WEAR A BLACK HAT? Hummmm? H^^

Yeah, but it was OK cause he rode a white horse ! ! !
and didn't he have a silver band around his hat.

Even as a child...GENE ARTERY' MADE US KIDS..WANNA PUKE! His poor horse Champion must have ended up with a sway back from that FAT-BEER BELLY THAT BOUNCED WHEN HE RODE..we were always thinkin' that that big silver belt buckle of his would penetrate his big fat jelly belly..while old Champion, the poor horse would rare up and wave his poor achin' front hooves. PLUS THAT NASAL SNOTTY SOUNDING VOICE OF HIS..WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO TRY AND YODDLE-DOODLE DANDY...WORST OF ALL! WHAT REALL SICKENED US KIDS..WAS THAT BLUBBERY DOUBLE CHIN OF HIS...WOULD VIBRATE LIKE AN OLD RUBY RED PLUNKED CHICKEN'S NECK.
THERE!!! I FEEL BETTER ALREADY! LL~ LL~ LL~ **) SH^ na#

Shultzie, You are the master of the written word. Your description put in to words what has been in the back of my mind for 60 years.
To give him credit he did manage to parlay his earnings in to fortune. I remember seeing Lash Larue at a gun show selling autographed pictures to eek out a living. Sadly there were not many takers.

My heros were the sidekicks like Gabby Hays and Andy Divine, Leon Errol,Tonto The king of few words kemasaby. They were the real heros. I could'nt stand Roy Rogers because I thought the way he dressed he was a sissy coooowboy. And Hoppy was the guy that never kissed the girls. Like a lot of us those days the Saturday afternoon cerials were the thing. After we got out of the movie we would go play cops and robbers or cowboy and indians. sometimes even robinhood. I spent most of my life trying to get my bow untangled from trees and healing my ankles from jumping out of same trees. Boy I lived my childhood to the fullest, But I did have a good childhood. I know shultzie did too just from the take on his sence of hummer even as demented as it is!

One more time..I even had the RED RYDER BB gun!!!!..

One more time..I even had the RED RYDER BB gun!!!!..
"A RED RYDER BB GUN!" Me too...so did my little buddy, Johnny Sanders (a son of a Baptist preacherman) and we used to get into all kinds of trouble with a capitol T.
We used to take those guns over to the park across the street in Bronson Kansas...play Cowboy and Indians. (No BB's at first)After one matinee...we saw a Red Ryder movie and it was almost dark by the time we got home.... we decided to LOAD BOTH OUR GUNS...and hide out behind trees and take pot shots at each other when we would peek out behind the Elm tree trunks.
Our safety rule was...that we were not to aim at our heads...but body shots were OK from a distance.
Johnny was the Indian...he jumped out from behind the tree...I took my shot..hit him in groin area...GADS, HE WAS MADDERN' HELL IN A HAND BASKET...JOHNNY WAS CRYING BUT HE STILL TOOK THE TIME AND AIMED AT MY HEAD...PULLED THE TRIGGER...AND "KAAAPOW!"
Johnny hit me right between the eyes...just about an inch above the bridge of my nose!
I felt my head...I could feel the BB INSIDE THE SKIN OF MY FORE HEAD...and blood started running down my nose...I started screaaaaammmmin' "MOMMY, MOMMY, MOMMY, I AM DYIN'!!! turned and ran for home...with Johnny running right behind me with his RED RYDER in his left hand....screeeeammmmin' for me to not tell my mother...because his DADDY would beat him with his belt...and take his gun away forever!!!!
TALK ABOUT CRISIS!
All ended well....my mother took her tweezers and pulled the BB out of my head...put a piece of guaze and taped me up and we never did tell Johnny Sanders father what had happened. His Dad never spared the rod (belt) and I had seen many bruises on his upper legs and lower back where Rev. Sanders had "corrected" Johnny's behavior.
THAT WAS THE VERY LAST TIME THAT WE EVER PLAYED COWBOY'S AND INDIANS WITH LIVE BB'S!
And by the grace of God and my mother, she never took our guns away. I feel a song comin on:
"LEAVE YOUR GUNS AT HOME DON..DON'T TAKE YER' GUNS TO TOWN, DON! n'all that jazz.
-
That is good!...my grandmother had a big garden out back..she kept my bb gun cocked..every time a dog would take a dump out there..she would nail the sucker nail it ..one shot...man, that was fun to watch

And today, the Politically correct crowd have outlawed toy guns.. Gosh we all had them and we all survived.. amazing.
I liked Gene Autry, but the sideskicks were the best.. Pat Butrum, Pat Brady, Gabby, Andy Devine, and of course ,Tonto.
BUT Sky King was the man.. and his beautiful niece Penny. The Cessna T50 bamboo bomber, and the early Cessna 310.. In later years I got to fly both airplanes.. wow.. I re-lived Sky King for real.
I guess I am going have to buy a new cowboy hat!
Kreth, thanks for that link. I guess I am have to watch evry one of the 64.
BTW: Go to skyking.com for the show history, details on the actors and planes, and there is a box set available of all 72 episodes (Yes 72 )

Hey,being from montana there was the mountie an for some reason I can't think of his name and he had a huskie dog too. Anyone remember?
-
Ah yes... "Sargent Preston of the Yukon, and his dog "King" .
"King" was a Black and White Siberian Husky
That is probably why I have had Siberian Huskies most of my life. Our current one is named "Scarlett". She is copper colored with blue eyes. (Copper is the AKC official color, it looks more choclate brown when the new coat comes in and gets lighter before she sheds the winter coat.)
Our last Husky was silver color with brown eyes, a beautiful show dog.

I miss the days of the radio shows in which your imagination took over as the show progressed. Use to rush home from school to listen to some young kid at the B-Bar-B Ranch. His name escapes me. DOC Holliday

I read somewhere where they played a recording of an old radio show for a group of grade school children. After it was over they were discussing it. One little boy said "I liked it better than television". When was ask why, he replied: "I liked the pictures better".
And if may add something, I liked them better also.

Oh yes, They could paint a picture in your mind that lasted forever. My son loved Lum and Abner. then there was Allens Alley, Great Gildersleeve. It made us use our imajination. My uncle loved Lights Out and Intersanctum and of course the supperhero THE LONE RANGER. Jack Benny and Rochester. Good stuff.

XM satellite radio has a channel (164) totally devoted to old radio shows. I just heard an episode of "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon", as well as The Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke (the best acted, best written western radio drama, and had the best sound effects), Lux Radio Theater, Dragnet, The Green Hornet, Fibber McGee and Molly, Pat Novak for Hire, Yours Truly; Johnny Dollar, The Whistler, The Shadow, et cetera. I sometimes laugh out loud at how corny these old shows can be, but its good clean fun. A very scarce commodity on the airwaves these days.
