I flew one scratch built from Dixon plans with own foam cores, VERY good and competitive plane.
The mods make it even better than the stock SIG Magnum, i remember thicker section at the tips (preventing slow speed stalling), more section in the aft fuse, stiffer nose with no cowl for those 60s vibes,  fuse mounted alu gear.
Mine came up at 62 oz and did very well with a Merco 49 (later a Dixon Merco 61).

Nice plane, hope you enjoy yours as much as I did!!
Regards.

Thanks for the info on the plane, just like the looks of the model and have room in the hanger for a few more.Having been away from the hobby so long makes all the stunt ships look interesting to build. So much to catch up on except for the prices of things...thanks jim

Hi, Jim.
I try to be on the cheap side always I can, so I make my own foam cores, horns, tanks, alu landing gears.... fun job too.
By the way, ARTFs are cheaper than they can seem at the first look. Make some calculations, and go on!

Regards,
Manuel.

Hey Jimmy
I still have the carbon strands left, you can make some props after you cut the wings.

I bought my Magnum Plus (renamed as "Mutant Magnum" by Danny Dirt), tested and trimmed for a few years by DaDirt. It flies very well, tho the Dirt/GMA reworked engine is not the strongest. I have a Tom Lay G.51 for it...one of these days. It's 62 oz. as it sits, with foam wing. I'd like to try my 2Star .60bb in it, and will see if that might fit when the current .51 comes out. This design is an excellent choice, tho I'm not crazy about foam wings.  y1 Steve

Great picture steve...setting here looking at the plans and it kinda grows on me to build this thing. I think im gonna build it all wood though.Gonna have a st 51 or double star 60 in it. I got a 2 star 40 in my vector and it's a sweet running motor.Appreciate the input on the model. thanks jimmy

Hello Steve I had to chuckle as it appears to have a pipe painted in the bottom?   ;D

I had a few of them  ,built up wing ,not foam, powered with Double star 60 light and also Super tiger 51,but the ones I liked best were powered by Stalker 61 . I consider it a super easy to build plane and a good flyer. I did a few experimental modifications and I'm not sure anything I did actually improved the model at all but it did disguise the beast. I do like the nose design where there is no removable cowl and the engine just slips in,similar to the old Tucker Special.

I thought I'd seen every CL stunter that Varley ever flew, but apparently not so!

Dennis...yup, that's a painted-on "Tuna Pipa". It works good, but the flat paint didn't seem to be very durable. This was the work of Dirty Dan, of course.

Dan's been after me to refinish the model. While it's solid enough to warrant it, there's not much in it for me, as I still wouldn't get appearance points. On the other hand, it would extend the life some, and that's never a bad thing, for such a nice flying model. I guess if the new T&L G.51 makes a big improvement, I'll reconsider. If the Double Star .60bb will fit, I'd be twice (pun!) as likely to do it. I like the red & white scheme, and it shows up well. It would be nice if I could fly it as well as it deserves to be flown.  HB~> Steve

I have a coupla kits of the SIG version.

Plan to name one, after I decide what mods I'll bash into it, as the Mag-Pi. May even paint it black/white/purple...
