I have used a Magna Jig for about 50 years. Wings are always straight and the structures are easy to align. I lent it to a friend who is particular about his models also and he was amazed at the ease in which the wing assembled.
Regrettably the magna jig hasn't been available for about 45 years but it is a heavy steel and wood assembly that cannot warp opens up to 6 feet and you can build an Al Rabe or Pat Johnson model with dihedral as it is two thirty six inch pieces. I also have about 300 magnets and after this many years I think I know how to use then more effectively than perhaps most other builders. Regrettably I don't have a rod type jig but I'm thinking of using one just to see if I'm missing anything.
I am assuming that the other responses dealt with smaller set ups than mine, As I have built literally hundreds of models on this board in 50 years.

I am tempted to go buy a piece of galvanized sheet metal and try it .

I forgot to mention in my last post it is not unusual to have the whole wing together and aligned on this board and then apply glue to the joints. Granted I do use 2 alignment sticks for the trailing edge but once the datum line is established then the magnets hold the part in perfect position, same for spars and ribs in general. I also generally have the leading edge positioned in place and have squared everything before permanently gluing the structure together. Rather simple and readily apparent to anyone with common sense to use it.

Mike,

You do not need 90 degree magnets. For ribs 2 on each  front and rear of the rib upright will  absolutely lock the rib in place. You won't take long to see how the other applications are handled as they are readily apparent.

If I was going to try magnetic building board I would build this one.  He has done a good job with the design and gives a lot of good info about sourcing materials.  You can also buy a system from him.
