Magician 35 finished

I finally got out to take a few photos of my new build today.. (from a previous thread I posted I never did find out the date the Magician 35 first appeared but, but what the hell!) Anyway, heres a few pics of her.. I tissue doped the fusalage and used rattle can paint, light grey. wings and stab used orange solartex. I love this stuff, it goes on easy and is really strong (if a little heavy) Finished weight with OS max 35 is 40 oz, I had to add 2 oz of tail weight to get c.g. correct.

BTW:  Just a bit curious where you get the Solartex from?

You can buy Worldtex from horizonhobby.com. It is exactly the same as Solartex. However, the color selection is rather limited.

Very nice Phil. With flaps they do fly better with the CG back a little further than the plans show. Out of the 4 I have built they all balanced right on the front edge of the spar or a little more forward. They really do fly nice and 40 ounces is not bad at all with flaps. My first one with a Fox 35 weighed 35 ounces and flew great. My last one with a Super Tigre 46 weighs right at 40 and seems to fly as well. I do have the Tigre tamed down a bit. My best flying ones have been with McCoy 40 Red Heads, but they do wear out before all the others.
           The "Tex's" are really great covering materials, and I have covered a few of my R/C planes with it. It seems to me to be the best of all the fabric iron on's.

Thanks for the kind comments, I have an old 'hand me down' Magician with the same motor at 47 oz and it flies great, well, for me anyway! Joe, Solartex is widley available in the UK, and on ebay, in many colours. I would always recommend it, except where weight is critical. Jim, I have mine balanced same as you, right on the front spar so should be fine. Avieojet, having fine weather here in England but the wind is a demon and has been since last October (apart from the odd weekday when I'm at work!) So, looking forward to the first trip out whenever that will be.. Oh, I've also been given a Flightstreak and am waiting for a venturi and nva for a SC 25 to go in. That should be plenty power..
