Title: Macchi 205 stunter ?
Post by: Rob Killick on April 19, 2011, 07:00:59 PM
Hi ,

I've always wanted to build an Aer Macchi 205 stunt ship , with a full fuselage .

Anyone know if there are plans for a full fuse MC 205 (.40 size) ? I've seen plans listed for a profile 205 , but not one with a full fuse .

Thanks ,

Rob K.

There was a nice 202 published in FM years ago and plans are still available for it. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to modify it to a 2005. I keep asking designers like Pat johnston to deo some of the better european fighters from  particularly Italy,Japan and one or two interesting French designs. Even a Russian Stormovik would be really 'cool'  As much as I like our steady staple of well known US fighters there are far too many really neat aircraft that we have turned a blind eye to.
I know that John Miller did the 2 Russian designs that J.Brodak kits perhaps there are a few more interesting things that he has locked away.

Compestella did one , flew in World Champs and Euro Champs, late 70s.
Very nice looking , upright ST 46. desert camo green squiggles over sand
colour. Dunno if it came from his ' Tango ' plan . Any Info availiable ??

Dennis Duvall had one in Flying Models.  Jack Sheeks designed a Hienkel HE100 Stunter in Model Aviation in the 80's called the Hienkel Stunter.  This would be very easy to turn into a Macchi.

I have a couple of scale plas for the 205 that could give you the former shapes and the like - if you are interested

I recently recieved plans for Dennis Duvall's Macchi 205 stunnter from Flying Models... Dennis had a little help from Jack Sheeks in the design process... Dennis used a foam wing but plans show a built up wing.. Dennis said it flew very well.. so I will be building one in the near future... the FM plan number is CF 347

I just can't figure out why it wasn't called the Macchi CCV. That puts me off on the whole idea... VD~ Steve

OK!  I'll cry "Uncle".  Guess I better start getting some 3D's together on the M205.  Should be interesting.  Going for the usual 570 incher for a 40-46.  To be continued...

Got a hold of the 3D's for the MC205.  It almost looks like I could take my Ki61 Tony and alter it to become the MC205.  Close anyway.  The wing is a little high aspect ratio like the Tony and the proportions look reasonably good.  The wing may only need a flat top for that amount of dihedral.  Maybe 1/2" plus or minus.  Good wheel stance and plenty of prop clearance.  Lots of interesting little blisters all over the cowl end.  This will keep "Sparky Storick" busy.  Certainly an interesting plane.  I'll start next week.

I'm Glad Rob K. brought up the Macchi 205. I have always admired the design and performance of the real plane. Now Pat is going to come up with some plans! I appreciate this very much. Thanks Pat.

Hi ,

WOW !

I didn't think the MC 205 would get such a favorable response   #^

I thought that the Ki 61 wing might be a good match for the model 205 , but the fuselage structure was kind of difficult to figure out (the humped turtle deck and all). Some pretty small horizontal stabs , to boot .

I'm glad Mr. Johnston ,, might take up the challenge of producing drawings  y1

Thanks to all who sent files and answered my questions .

All the best ,

Rob Killick
