Gary Letsinger has a Mac, and can't find a program on it to process pictures (he has tons of old stunter pictures that need to get posted). He can scan and crop, but we couldn't find any way to resize or compress. n~ :! :X Advise requested! TIA, Steve

I think photoshop would work

Here is a link to a free program that will do a lot of manipulations to photos.
He would have to check and see if it Mac compatible

Well, yeah. We couldn't find a program on his confuser that would do it. I'm a PC guy (some would argue, depending on their definition of PC), and an IrfanView (IV) fan. I know there's a version of IV for MACs, but Gary says his OS is newer than the one that the MAC version (of IV) uses, and he didn't think it would work. Gary would probably be willing to buy a software, but a recommendation would help decide. I thought PhotoShop was a MS program for PC's? Is there a MAC version? I used Photo Editor for awhile, and liked it. HB~> Steve

I have Adobe Illustrator 10 and I know its made for MAC because it the standard in the printing industry. I got it from my printer who uses a MAC which I think is the computer of choice for Professional print shops. So that was my reasoning behind saying photo shop (made by Adobe). Just a thought.

I have a IMAC G5 and I compress jpegs with Preview. Open the jpeg, go to File on the menu, scroll down to "Save as" and you will see a new window that has Format and Quality selections in it. I usually select jpeg and slide the quality control to the left to get the compression I need. Remember to rename the jpeg when you do this so you don't lose the original higher resolution picture.

I've been using a mac for years. I suggest the following: GraphicConverter- shareware from www.lemkesoft.com
or Adobe Photoshop Elements- it does 90% of what the full Photoshop program does, for $52 bucks from Amazon.com, a bit less if you shop around. (also available for PCs)
In my opinion Photoshop Elements would be prefered. Though GraphicConverter Works fine even if you don't register(pay) and does some things that photoshop does't do. I use them both.
What Mac OS is he using? What model mac?
Hope this helps.

Since the current Mac system is based on Linux, you can use the premier Linux graphics manipulation program: The Gimp (Graphic Image Manipulation Program).
There are hundreds of plugins and it works quite well. You can get it at:

Actually it (OSX) isn't based on Linux, but rather BSD, a Unix variant. But you are right Gimp has been compiled for it.
I think the real question (as someone has asked) what actual OS does he have OSX or the previous OS9(8,7,....)

Thanks, Guys...I tried to send Gary a notification of this thread, but couldn't make it work. Claimed invalid email addy content...no <>, no *, no #*&%^+~!
I'll just send him an email.
Not sure if Gary has power right now or not; this wind storm has been pretty severe. First time I've had any fence problems in the 26 years it's been up. Snapped off a 4x4 PT post at the ground, and a section blew down. Well, did have the boat gate blown in half...broke the top 2x4 rail, which was pressure treated "hemfir". Amazing, considering house and boat block a lot of the wind load in that side of the yard. We got power back during the night, so it wasn't all that bad for us. We were set to build a fire in the stove downstairs, but it was bedtime, so we took that option.
How's things going at Randy P's and Smoltzie's? Got power? I was reading my new CNC Mill's operator's manual last night by candle light, just like Abe Lincoln did, in his youth. It doesn't do much good, without the keyboard to poke at.
Alas, we had power at work both Thursday and Friday. Traffic sucks. Lines of vehicles trying to buy gas at anyplace that has power to pump it. We could use some "D" cells.... **) Steve
