Check out latest MA. A semi-editorial article is called "Take the Road Less Traveled." This means , the folks at HQ have somehow realized that some modelers actually build planes from balsa and such! In addition, the issue contains many construction articles. Just like the old days!

Things are looking up!

But not completely... in the same issue, they are touting kits having 50% size. Like, 165" wingspan.

So, a reminder. Be sure to seek adequate shelter if anyone is flying one of these things close by.

Ya right Floyd. When I chastised an R/C guy for flying over our circle, his retort was "I haven't hit anyone yet".

That last time a guy flew over the circle I used to fly at, I went over and asked if he could fly lower. Told him I needed the practice for combat. Also if I did hit his plane he would be responsible for replacing mine. I guess the rest of the guys also got onto him as he stayed on his side of the fence from then on. This same guy was chastised for hogging the run way when other were flying. In fact I almost got one RC plane that got a little too close at the old Shawnee Mission RC field which was another time.

Floyd,

I thought you were referring to the fact that there's no control line in the issue, but then, maybe that's happened before? I saw no control line columns or construction articles or contest covereage, did I miss it? If I did, somebody point it out and I'll retract my statement.

I know, I know, we need to contribute something if we want to see something, we can't expect the same people to do it all the time. I'm as guilty as anyone of this. Aside from writing a club newsletter decades ago, I've never submitted anything to a magazine. Something to add to my bucket list? Looks like it...

It starts on p.123. There's a picture of Tom Morris and some planes in a c/l aerobatics section on p.128. And pictures of c/l at Joe Nall. Also a combat segment. I'm looking at the September issue. Some of our other members got their pretty faces in there too.

Just got home from the beach and my mail is still on hold. Probably get it next month.

But since we're on the subject, I wish I knew of a good C/L mag. Is there any such publication that doesn't necessitate my joining another organization? I would love to join PAMPA ($60 I believe) and get Stunt News, but I'm at about my limit on membership spending these days.

The lowest cost option is to join PAMPA and get Stunt News on-line for $25. I believe the rates will be increasing for 2014.

There are several different PAMPA membership rates, depending on how you wish to receive Stunt News (online, US bulk mail, 1st class US mail, CD).
There are added fees for shipping Stunt News outside the US.

Well, there's always the Brodak publication "Control Line World" - excellent and covers all aspects of C/L modeling.
A PAMPA subscription, on-line only is a bargain at $35.00 (2014 price). After downloading the current edition it can be saved under documents for later viewing. The membership also give you access to previous editions going back over 10 years that can be downloaded. Lots of information and hours of reading there.

Gee, Thanks Guys. I write an article and get it published in MA and no one reads it!

Look at the April issue starting on page 39. It got published quickly because it applied to FF and RC as well as CL.

Well, I was personally very, very pleased with the renewed emphasis placed on building in the October Issue of MA. Let's just hope it sticks! I would love to see a general renaissance in aircraft model building, especially in the more densely populated segments of aeromodeling. (As we know, the vast majority of CL flyers are active, enthusiastic, and skilled builders, but we are a rather small minority of MA readers.) IMHO the ARF phenomenon is one (big) reason for the demise of the LHS and MA's becoming, more or less, an RC equipment catalog.

My original post was intended to recognize MA and its editors for publishing a nice issue devoted to actual "modeling".

In my own experience with model magazines, several of my construction articles have been published. Perhaps we might see more of these if modelers would take the trouble to prepare their design/construction efforts in a format "print-ready" for publication.

Let's not forget to mention PAMPAS membership list. Names, addresses, and emails of hundreds of members around the world. Traveling? Look up clubs, and members to where you are going. Always fun to hang out with folks from other areas. Maybe even folks youve met on Stunthanger.

I am pretty certain MA does its CL column every other month.

In September in the helicopter column there was a very nice breakdown on batteries and chargers etc. Very informative. I usually try to read most if not all of the columns. I can usually pick up something most months that I can use in CLPA, mostly it's about building. Imagine that, picking up building tips and ideas from other disciplines. It's all good information.

I am thinking they are doing a theme type publication each month. At least it seems that way to me. I was very pleased to see and read the building articles. Very informative stuff. It was cool to see the CL pics in the monthly district columns too!

Well I just got my issue yesterday at the same time I got my issue of Flying Models. Maybe I am bias, but I look thru all my mags for stuff I never knew. I have always admired all of the modeling people that build and fly. Just can't see laying out the money some have for the RC end of it. And the kids get a kick out of the simple rubber power FF planes. and the gliders. But, $5.00 for a 25 cent glider!!!!

These days,,, $5.00 is about the same as 25 cents. At least it feels that way at the grocery store, the gas pump, and everything in between... such as life.

Seems like "the newest thing" is building those 10 cent rubber model kits of the '40s. Since the new kits are all assembled and packed by hand, the cost seems a bit too much. Various plans can be down-loaded, and balsa from the scrap box will work. A plastic prop and some SIG rubber will be about the only cost. These things are really fun. A nice break from spending 6 months building a zoot stunter!
