Akromaster engine - TT or Brodak
« on: March 17, 2016, 02:39:14 AM »
Hi All (First post)
Seriously thinking about getting back into c/l after many years away.  Would like to kick off with an Akromaster kit.
Two engines that I easily have access to are the Brodak .15 or a lightly used TT .15 shown below (hopefuly).

Any thoughts?

Dave

Either one should work.  Either one is probably more engine than an Akromaster needs, because the Akromaster is designed for engines in production around 1970, and they're not as powerful as either of those engines.  I'd lean toward whichever one is lighter.

Don't shorten the long wood in the wing, cut a few extra wing ribs, and make the wing a bit longer -- that'll carry the engine better.

Keep us posted.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

The Brodak might be lighter.

I would agree with Dennis,  the Brodak would be lighter and the TT's that I've used have been VERY fast.    The plane is so light I'd say almost any old .15 would fly it pretty well...

Hello Dave,
                Just remember
that old and older engines
need extra oil in the fuel.

I'd use castor but wiser people
might say synthetic.

When I got back into model aircraft
I ruined a new K&B .61. a ST .35 from
my teens and a nice Fox.35 before
someone took mercy on me and
clued me in about modern fuels.
Alas.....

Cheers! - K.
