Title: Lost a Good Friend
Post by: Brian Massey on June 13, 2012, 08:58:02 AM
Poppy was a stray that adopted us 12 years ago. She had a quirky personality, but once you got use to that, she was sweet. Fastest dog I every had; she got out of the yard once while I was driving away. Saw her in the mirror and held my speed at 25mph; she caught up with me before I got to the end of the block. The past few years she really slowed down, and started having health issues, and then last summer lost her sight. It had gotten to the point I was considering having her put down, but she took that decision out of my hands. late in the evening she started showing confusion and discomfort. My wife and I sat with her past midnight before going to bed; she passed shortly after that.

Sure do miss her.

RIP Poppy.
I know your grief, our four legged friends are all a part of the family.

Sorry for your loss, Brian.  I know how losing a pet can be for a lot of us.  They become a part of the family so to speak.

Brian,
I am sorry for your loss. Pets are part of the family, losing one hurts.

My condolences, those family members in fur coats are precious.  (Wish I could be the man my dog & cat think I am.)

Brian,

Thank you for sharing this with the Forum.

It was really nice of you both to spend the late and early hours with Poppy.

My heart goes out to Poppy, yourself and your wife.

Charles

Brian

I am 57 years old and never spent a day of my life without a beloved pet. I went through the grief of saying goodbye to a few beloved friends. We have 4 dogs and 3 cats and I can feel your pain. The best way I found for dealing with such great loss is after a while, to go to the local animals shelter and adopt another pet. Give a new one a chance of good life. My daughter said to me a few months ago: "There are only two beings in the whole world that will forever love love you unconditionally: Your Mom and your dog" - so true!

Joshua, that saying is so true.   I can't beleive that growing up on a farm I could get attached to animals.  even after getting married with some dogs and cats I never really felt tha close to them.   But then I got Sandy a few years ago and things have changed.  We left her with the neighbors the Christmas we went to Disney World in Orlando.   Had to get out the door so I would start crying.

Brian,  your story is a great one and I hope you and your wife will give another pup/dog a chance.  Yes Poppy will be missed and she was a pretty dog.  So take care.   :'(

Pets are sure special, the love you give to them it seems you get back more you get back more. I lost my Golden last year and I am still not over it, I know how you feel. If they had a good life with you the memories will be great!---LOUIE    :'( :-[ :-\ :) ;) :D ;D
