Loss OF Another Flying Site
« on: June 25, 2008, 09:46:34 AM »
I've attached a Word Document of an article that appeared in the local paper regarding the Corsair RC Club of Akron loosing their flying site after 30 some years. This club goes back a long time and the reason they are being denied the use of the site is bureaucratic BS.

Beaurcratic BS for sure.  When Whittier Narrows park was faced with the "flying over the heads of hikers" problem, they built a chain link cage over the trail near the flying site.  Both activities continue.  Just a difference in attitudes.  Apparently the Akron powers-that-be are like my former father-in-law, he said, "Ridiculous, a grown man playing with toys!"  If someone could get them to try flying either control line or R/C maybe they wouldn't be so derisive.

I read about this on RCU. All I can says is what bs! Some people will complain about anything, and are not happy to they ruin other peoples fun. I wish those guys best of luck, and hope they find another field.

Another reason to force kids to stay at home or learn "street" activities. Its only a matter of time before people will be breaking the law by just stepping out of their homes.  This country is turning into a big S*** hole

I don't know if it's been mentioned on any of the forums, but the Topeka Control Line Association is losing a flying field that's been there since the 1940's.  It's even a VFW Memorial and a dedicated CL site.  There wasn't much warning.  A group decided they wanted that corner of the park for a childrens discovery museum, and by the time the club found out, it was pretty much a done deal.  After efforts were expended there's been talk of the city putting in a new site, but nothing is concrete.

From watching this field go away, and talking with people in other areas where sites have been lost, it seems like a large part of the flying sites going away can be traced back to a lack of use.  It's almost inevitable when fewer people participate all the time.  We joined the local R/C club about a year ago so we could fly at their field.  There's a posted list at the field with all the club members names.  Last year it had twice as many names on it as it does now.  Also there are a lot of people we haven't seen flying this year, that were out last year.  It's not just CL, it's RC too... It's all shrinking for whatever reasons.  The club field here is a really nice place to fly, and I'm a little worried it won't last.

File a law suit demanding an enviromental impact study for the increased foot traffic and loss of "wet lands" that the new trails would disturb. Make it expensive of the s.o.b.s to run you out.
