Looking for recommendations

I have a Brodak 59 Ares kit. I intend go electric with this plane, but have never built or flown electric before. There's an electric conversion kit #BH-1943 which I  understand to be a universal kit to prepare the model to accept an electric system. Brodak also offers an electric power package #BH-1833 (".19-.35 sized"). This kit seems to include all the pieces I'm unfamiliar with all in one convenient package, but I have some doubts about it's suitability for the 59 Ares (seems too small / underpowered to me).
Is the #BH-1833 actually OK for the 59 Ares? Or, will I be forced to piece together all the separate components in order to have a successful first electric plane.
Also, separately, I'm looking for spinner /propeller recommendations for 59 Ares with electric setup.

That might be a little light but still in the ballpark.  What I could find on that motor is that it is an in-runner and 1850kv.  For an outrunner, 1850 is way too high. 600-900 is what most of us fly.  Going with a startup set is nice but I am not sure that one is going to work if you come out a bit heavy.  Personally, I would go with one of the conversion kits and buy the electric components separately.  One thing I can say is that you are going to like it once you figure it out.

Beautiful plane, nice choice.

I'm not a big fan of electric power packages from hobby shops. So easy to piece it out and you'll know you have high quality components.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that conversion kit just a 1/8 plywood box with no real plan for where everything goes? I'd like to see a pictorial on how that goes together and gets in the air. Also I think it has a lite ply motor mount that you will regret using.

There are pics on this site that show how to mount/set up an electric system. Lots of ideas to apply to your project. Look for Bob Hunt G10 mount and you'll be on a good track.

This is EXACTLY the way to go.  Except for the E Flight (I used a Cobra 2820/12) this (including the Twister) was my starting set.  There are quite a few Electric Ares out there.  Maybe some of the owners could take some pictures and let you know how they pulled it off.  It is not the easiest thing in the world to convert a 60's IC to electric.  The fuselages were just too small and the planes too light.  See if you can get Dennis Adamisin to chime in.

Agreed, Cobra's a good motor. I've been using E Flite but would switch to Cobra no problem.

I went back and looked.  The conversion kit I used was the 2" wide Brodak Universal "A" #BH-1943 conversion kit.  The instructions that came with it was based on the Ares.
