Title: Looking for a Ringmaster picture
Post by: Randy Powell on September 08, 2014, 07:44:01 PM
Does anyone have a picture of a Ringmaster painted like the one on the original Sterling box?

Keep in mind the lighter Blue you see on the fwd fuse. is just a prop shadow.
Black, White and Red would look good too!

Here's mine,

I tried to copy the box art as close as possible. Who knows what actual color it was supposed to be in 1950...

Don't think I ever got a picture of mine but believe you saw it at one of the SR contests 20 years ago.  I covered the wing/stab/elevator with Coverite's Silkspun Coverite and finished with a couple of coats of Black Baron clear - I think simply a urethane varnish.  Fuselage was a blue fabric Coverite I painted an insignia blue dope.  It looked pretty period authentic.

Only surviving photo I have is of the inboard wing with the red/clear MonoKote checkerboard trim.

Hi Randy,

According to the original (1st kit) plans,  the colors were: black nose doublers, red fuselage/rudder-fin, Diana Cream wings and stab/elev., black and red checkerboards on inboard wing.

I  painted mine in this manner and there were some pictures here somewhere...............

For those of you wondering, I'm considering a new Ringmaster Deluxe (with a few changes) and thought if I did it, I'd paint is like the original S-1

Have you considered posing this question on the Brotherhood of the Ring?

all of my S1's are wild colors, so im no help. this sounds like a super cool idea, Randy!

Uncle Mikey's painting nailed the "Original" kit's call out for colors.  Only difference is two rows of black checkerboard in the center of the red checkerboard on the inboard wing.  I used Sig Diana Cream so it is a touch darker than the color Mike used on the wings.

There is really nothing else to discuss since this comes from a first run kit.  The engine shown as "original" was a K&B Torpedo.
