Look who we dragged out!
« on: July 12, 2018, 07:48:19 PM »
It was great to see Bubba this evening. He came down to help test fly Frank's  new Turning Point twin. Frank's plane of course is stunning. Pictured is Bob and myself holding two of Bob's designs.  My Dropnose Crossfire and the aforementioned Turning Point. It was great to see Bob flying in the better part of 2 years.

...because Bob is now resting with the retired dogs.  Z@@ZZZ

Although, I had a blast flying Tom's "Drop Nose" Crossfire and Frank's delicious new twin the other night... So much so that I'm leaving in a few minutes to go there again tonight! It felt great to go through a pattern, and Tom's Crossfire flies amazingly well. He has it on the new Ukrainian lines and they felt great. I've always preferred solids, but these new lines might just tempt me to come back on a limited basis and fly a bit.

Frank's new twin is one that I designed just before "retiring." It shows great promise and once we get the motor runs sorted out, I'm sure it will be just as killer as Tom's Crossfire.

Attached here is a side view of the new twin (sans nacelles) on the drawing board. I don't think it will need any airframe tweaks once the motors are sorted. I might just have to build one...

Bob

Thanks for the invite, Skip, but at present I don't have any planes flyable. I do have a bunch of new ideas to try and optimize the electric motor package. Up until now we have for the most part been stuffing electric motors into airplanes that were designed for glow. I know that Paul and Chris have done a lot in this direction with their new ships. That is something that interests me greatly... even if I never fly one in competition.

Attached is a photo of what I am now "flying."

That's a really good looking twin!

So now, let's design an F5F and show what electric power really can enable!

Love the ship you’re “flying”, Bob. Although ... should I be disappointed that it’s not electric?  ::)

I’m long overdue for driving up your way for a visit; I’ll bring some of my electric “ships” when I do!

I bust Bob with this thread but he has really helped get me on track with the Crossfire. My biggest issue was flying on 015 lines. At 64oz. I was getting too much stretch and had to constantly feed corrective input. When I went to the 016 4 strand brass coated, that all went away. Immediately,  I had a different airplane. The plane tracks so incredibly well that, it is literally, point and shoot. I must say Bob enjoyed flying it and it was cool to see it from outside the circle.
I will add that he said " you have an airplane that will take you as far as you want to go." ..... Nothing like a little pressure!!! Lol y1..... practice, practice, practice!

Yeah, come on over; we can do a bit of "formation flying." (otherwise known as jamming...)

I do "fly" the Taylor electrically on occasion, Mike, as it has the Expression system on board. I much prefer playing acoustically into a mic at live performances. It just gives a more accurate acoustic sound.

Let's see now, ummm, it took me 8 years to build my first Nobler.  And this is a twin and electric to boot.  So, we're looking at about a first flight in, say, 2028.

Hey, you weren't in a hurry to see this thing were you?

Formation flying sounds (literally!) good to me.  :)

I sort of kid about the electrics. I love them, but usually practice on an acoustic. Harder to hide fretting and picking mistakes. It's a little more unforgiving, but more satisfying when it's done right, and makes the electric playing cleaner, too.

Hi Mike:

I'm certain that I'm not in your league when it comes to guitar playing, but we can have some fun. We need to get-together and do a bit of actual flying, too. You are only a stone's throw away from where I live, so let's make some plans to play and fly!

Hi Randy:

Yeah, the back is doing okay; not great, but okay... Thanks for asking.

I have been enjoying flying with Tom Luciano and Frank Imbriaco. They tell me that if I'm to continue flying with them I'll have to change my name to end in a vowel... They are great guys to hang out with and we are having a lot of fun busting each other's chops (A Jersey state sport...).

Yo Bob am I gonna have to bribe you to come down with my Harmonica playing? Ok Ok, so don't compete. Just come down and hang out. BTW Joe Adamusko let me fly one of his ships....the Buck 550. I'd be dangerous with a ship like that! The thing I like about the electric jobs is that you can talk to the peanut gallery at the field while performing your stunts. So while flying I'm yelling at them.... "if I ever had a plane this good the rest of you mugs would have to take up stamp collecting."...they were pissing themselves!
