I got a phone call from Rodney Earp, from the RDRC club, just outside of Raleigh NC, a few weeks ago asking me if I could come up to their club and give them a hand getting some of their members going with some C/L models. This past weekend I threw 4-5 models in the truck and headed from Wilson NC ( where I live ) to see what could get accomplished in one day. Once I got there I met Herbbie Alford, and he informed me the club had installed 2 C/L circles already over grass, and the club intended to include C/L models in there" Blast from the past" vintage event this coming this June 16th. To make a long story short, I got 8 new people to "Solo" ( take off and land) on their own includeing the club president, Larry Lewis. He informed me the club was holding a sanctioned C/L fun fly get together for C/L pilots in the area to get together for a day of no competition flying this fall. The amazeing thing here is as we were flying, ( I used my Bi Slob as the trainer aircraft) we gathered a crowd of R/C pilots that walked over to our circles an commented on how they want to get involved with flying C/L again. Several ended up flying the Bi Slob. I used up a gallon of fuel, 2 broken props, no damage to the Bi Slob ( other than the rudder having to be re glued on several times from landing and flipping over in the grass) and met a group of club members with enthusiasm about C/L like I never seen before. The thing about all this is they aren't just talking about it they are moveing foreward with action as a club. I know there are little (cells) of C/L flyers around these parts of NC, mayby this will help get everyone together every now and then. Huntersville will have a lot of people from this area headed out that way to either fly or spectate as the RDRC club intrest grows........Gene
