Title: long island NY hidden CL site
Post by: Peter Nevai on May 27, 2011, 02:59:58 PM
Attached is a parking lot I found perfect for CL on 60' or shorter lines. You could fly on longer lines but then landings would be tricky. Not a place for the novice as it is pavement and a bit tight. But it is isolated and completely deserted on weekends. No on will bother you there as a number of the adjioning buildings are empty.

The smaller building the second one immediately to the right of the lot is where I work. I pass the lot every day. So if you decide to fly there I could launch and pit for you, no problem.

Hey Pete, when are you coming back to Markham Park?
Hi Phil, will be back down again next month, Yea I know just in time for it to get really hot. Before I can fly though I have to throw something together. Right now I have a bunch of motors but no planes. I dread the thought of an arf or arc, just because I can't stand being conventional. No nice foam wing kits out there and it takes some serious time to construct a built up right.

I might have to build in   NY, and ship one to FLA. But I have butkus for space up here. I will probably do the construction at work and screwem if they cant take a joke. It blows up here, no car, but I do have this nice lot walking distance.

And as for this other guy, I take advantage of any safe flyable site and as far as the AMA goes, I ASK WHAT HAS THE AMA DONE FOR YOU LATELY.

122.37375W 45.30171N

And it's AMA sanctioned.  And we keep the weeds cut really low.

This looks like a great place to fly as long as the the wind isn't coming from the East, South, West or North!!

I took these pictures today. I am not suggesting this is a established or official CL site, but it beats many public parks for safety and utilization. A good spot when other venues are unavailable.  It is great when people have the time to travel to a real CL flying field like FMP and spend the day, if if you can only spare a couple hours or less, places like this are all we have.

Years ago, Vic Macaluso obtained a county flying site.,.....one paved circle, one semicircle paved. It was way out by Brookhaven, as I recall....someone must recall where it was...
Have fun!

Yes he did, I remember once trying to find that site. I could not find it, did find a rc site in the vacinity of where the CL circles were supposed to be but the area was locked up behind gates and a sign that said access by RC club members only.

I think I heard it was bulldozed for some project but then the project never happened.

The site was bulldozed! They put a fenced in base ball field over the C/L site and the R/C field was turned into football fields. I drove into the old Grumman field in Calverton. There was nobody around, there is acres and acres of room for a couple of circles but I would'nt know how to get approval. I did not see any security around. I remember reading somewhere that the AMA and the EPA will help you find and secure a flying site. Has anyone else herd or read about this?-----LOUIE  D>K  H^^

A couple of years ago when getting the kids ready for Denver contest, the son(JJ) found a vacant parkng lot that was just barely big enough.   Lucky for us only one entry to lot.  Tried calling the business to get permission for use and kept getting hung up on.  Third time out a car pulls into the parking lot.   The guy sat there watching us pitting and flying.   He was amazed.  We asked who he was and found out he was the owner of the property and business.  We related how we kept getting hung up on every time we called.  Even gave him the dates we called.  We were told as long as it was us it was okay and he was going to have a talk with his receptionist.  We used the lot up til we left for Denver and then all the kids quit flying after we got home.   H^^
