The Smith Brothers Hobby Shop on Reseda Blvd in Northridge ( near Cal State Northridge) is worth a visit. They have a good selection of C/L and FF kits as well as building and finishing supplies.  8)

thanks for the recommendations guys. I ended up stoping by Smith Brother's and met Tony.  Very knowledgable guy.  I ended up walking out with a Brodak Oriental (ARC).  I think this will be a good plane to get me the air fast(er) and I'll think about a more comprehensive build as I get back into it.  (and have less fear of crashing..:-)

Wow Ed's. I used to go there in the 80's, one of the last shops to have a parts counter, need a P/L for Fox 15 or combat special no problem, they pretty much had every part you can think of in stock.  Also one of the best fuel selections around, I'm so glad they are still there.

Looking forward to it. I'm new to the area, but I ride my bike from SJ to Morgan Hill all the time, so gilroy by car can't be that much further !
