Hobby Enterprises, BARNSTORMER!

I just picked up a "Hobby Enterprises Repli-Kits" BARNSTORMER KIT. NIB.

I have no idea who they are or what kits they produce? Looks like a great kit with plans and their paperwork.

I built a Barnstormer in HS. I believe it had a bubble canopy, this one does not, just a flat cut clear piece.

What have I got here and is this kit Old Time Stunt legal? I'm not keeping the kit and I don't want to misrepresent it.

The original Barnstormer did not have a bubble canopy of sorts.  It was a piece of plastic sheet that was sewn together to make the canopy.  Mine got spirit of 52 award at Topeka years ago.

  I have all three, the 1950 Guillow's , the Mark 2 and the Baby Barnstormer.

I have cut out the pieces for a plans built Baby Barnstormer, but haven't started construction yet.  Was the Baby a pretty good flyer?

I also have a Brodak kit for the Barnstormer I hope to build for OTS this summer.  I've got a Fox .35 for it.

What have you used for power, what weight and what is a good lap time that works for them?

I'm working on finishing my first and will use Fox 35 power. I like to run a very rich 2 cycle in my El Diablo (34 oz) and around 4.85 lap time (a little quick but good for second round high ish wind's we always get down here).

HI Joe Ed. My "Baby BS" was first; covered in silk, second; hand doped, third ; "powered" with an OK Cub .049 B engine. Thus, at 4,000 MSL, it was heavy, under powered, over doped and I didn't really know what I was doing. Pretty  much the same as today...   Oh and the lines were way too long and of 200 pound sea fishing line I got for "free" from my Dad's sporting goods store, this was circa 1954. The only other guy that did anything with models was my best buddy Hugh, and we lived for the next issue of FM and MAN in the school library. WE KNEW NOTHING> In the 52 to 58 era, all model airplane stuff was MAGIC to us.

So, with all that for an answer, build it light,  use a good .049 such as a Medallion Cox, cover it in Japanese Tissue or Medium silk span, 35 foot eye to eye .008 lines and it "should"do fine.

As to the full size Barnstormer, I have built and flown 6, with #7 on the wall awaiting it's first flight. All flew fast, quick on the controls but fun. I even got two third place trophies... Would have done better, but kept leaving out either the wing over or the inverted flight. I hate the OTS pattern....Two of the BS were from Golden State/Umland kits.

The Baby Barnstormer kt I received from you  should be built this year. Will use the kit for templates, want to retain all original parts, box, plns etc.

Ty, Thanks for the reply.  I had planned on using my Medallion .049.  I bought a metal fuel tank from Brodak that will protrude out the right side of the fuselage a little.   I'm changing the lead outs to fly counter clockwise.  I gotta get going on that project again.

barnstormer.  It's easier than you think.  Make a paper pattern, then use a 0.027" drill for lots of holes in the 0.010" plastic.  Sew it up for an authentic
stitched canopy.  If you magnify the picture you can see more canopy detail.

I was thinking of a bubble canopy or open cockpit, if I can't sell it.

Reply.  My Barnstormer is covered with Polyspan.  Color is a tiny bit of colored dope mixed into clear.  The engine is a 1950 Orwick .29 glo.
