This is the one, I can feel it in my bones...but apparently we'll not find out for sure 'til Spring. Probably the last warm day here (60+ degrees) but also 20mph winds, no way will I try a 1/2A maiden flight in that wind.
Vitals: 36" span, 200 sq. in., a little under 10 oz., Norvel .061 with APC 6x2 prop and 48' lines (at least to start with). 33 1/3 % lighter (right, math brains?) than its 15-oz. predecessors, this should be it. Basic design flies well at the heavier weight although a little underpowered with the .061; so the severe diet oughtta be the defining factor. Hope, hope, hope...I'm gettin' a little tired of this design.

First nice day fire it up. There's nothing like alcohol on your fingers at around 0 deg. Something you have to experience to be a true Minnesotamodeler. A little shot of stating fluid also can help. That can light up your day. I still have a melted nylon jacket from that experience. WD40 also will work and is less volital.

Old formula WD-40 works because I believe there is some Naptha (lighter fluid) built in. It is my understanding though that the newer formulas do not have this and do not work. I have never tested it, so your mileage may vary....

You may be right as I haven't tried that trick for a couple of years.

Very cool looking plane and nice scheme.

Somehow you make it sound somewhat less than appealing...
I did my share of winter flying in my younger days. I remember a notable combat match with my brother on New Year's Day in which he crashed into a snowdrift. (Easy on the plane, anyhow). But I was young and stupid then. (Now I'm old and stupid...ha! beatcha to it!!). Nowadays I'm a real wimp, 50 d. is my floor and about 90 is my ceiling. Older I get, the pickier I am about my flying weather. After all, we're supposed to enjoy this sport, not endure it!
