Thanks for posting the picture, Doug!
Do you recall what size tank you were running on the Norvel's?

Thanks,

The tank is 1 oz or 3/4.  I have only flown that plane a few times and that was many many years ago.

Just a note: I can also provide Lost-Foam building fixtures for built-up wings for the Lil' Legends series.

Later - Bob Hunt

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I would be interested in one of these.
Blue foam, right?
I could cut my own, but with as much as I am working right now, I don't have the time to set up the bow on the bench.

Thanks Chris for putting this together. Just to clarify my position, I already have plans.  I would take either a full kit OR short kit OR foam wing. This is a fun potential project.

Okay guys, enough.

It's my bad. I suggested the name Little Legends to Steve Buso for the series of replica stunters. I then used the name Li'l Legends in a short piece about all the neat 1/2A models of Dick Sarpolus. One was a series name and one was an article name. It was a million years ago, and I guess I had some brain fade and forgot which was which. So, if you are going to blame someone. blame me. I have big shoulders and I can take it.

By the way, Dick Sarpolus is a friend to all of us, and he's in a funk right now. His wife, Lynn has Parkinson's and she is not doing well. Please keep Dick and Lynn in your thoughts and prayers.

Is there any way to get a digital copy of the plans? I hope to build my not-so-short stash of simple kits  (toys?) this spring...and then move on this summer to more aerobatic, scratch-build ships in 1/2A.

Thanks in advance

Hi, Jim-
Only physical plans will be offered.
They will be $15 each plus postage if folded, or $15, plus tube cost, and actual shipping costs, if you prefer the plans rolled.
Please let me know.

Kind regards,
Target

Gents-

I just spoke with Mr. Umland.
The plans are $15 plus shipping costs for the 5 plane sheet. They measure full size, approximately 36" x 60"

Walter wants to do a first run of Stiletto short kits only, other models will follow after that.
Bill Ambrose is asked to contact Walter directly for the one of the 5 models "multi-kit".

Walter will be offering a short kit of the 1/2A Stiletto. Included will be ALL PARTS that can be laser cut in balsa or ply.
Missing will be stick or sheet wood, hardware, motor mounts, bellcranks, controls, wheels, etc.
Cost is estimated to be $60 plus shipping each, but if there is enough interest, it could be slightly less.

I am assigned as the gatherer of customers so that Walter can concentrate on getting the kits rolling.

What I will need from you all is your info below sent to me via PM or email (I think there is a button for email on StuntHanger here), and a firm promise that you will pay Walter when the time comes. He says he is getting on the project quickly so it should not be long before the kits would be ready to ship out.

Name
Email address
Mailing address-where the kit will go
Phone number.

For the guys that want one of the other planes in the series, Walter says they will follow, and I would assume he'd go in order of demand, if not based on the wood cutting processes used, or some combination there of.

Also, for the guys that want the lost foam cradles from Bob Hunt (I know I do) for building the wing nice and accurate, if you indicate that in your comms with me, I will check if we can get a group rate on the fixtures.
Same as above for foam wings cores.

Kind Regards,
Target/Chris Behm

I sent out a SLUE of emails using the Email Button here on Stunthanger. They were sent to people that expressed interest before and haven't got on the "promise to buy one" list, and sent me their contact info.

Just to eliminate possible confusion about this, if you ask for a Stiletto (or other model, soon to follow) short kit, it does NOT come with the full five plane plan set, it will come with a wing build plan, and some other info to allow you to build that model.

If you want the full five model plan set, it will cost an extra $15, maybe plus shipping.... Possibly the shipping could be combined with the short kit, I am not sure about this. To be determined by Walter when he boxes the kits.

Attached is the latest of what I have after getting info from a few of you.
Serious folks have an "X" on the column to the far right, and I have their contact and shipping info.
I'll keep an updated plan/kit purchase list on the last post I make to the thread here.

Kind Regards,
Target

Guy-

I'm guessing the lines for these would be .008 x 40'-45', but hopefully someone like Doug Moon, Steve Moon or Roger V can chime in that has flown one of these models.

The LL postings are growing! Shouldn't this be moved to 1/2A Building?

Ideal setup depends on two major factors.
1. What are you using for power?.    I use Norvel .061's.
2.  What does it weigh , dry, ready to fly? My heaviest LL is 14.2 oz, but is uses a sheeted foam wing covered with Ultracote. I was not weight conscious when building same, too much adhesive on the sheeting, too much paint on remaining structure. :-(
It flew well on 42'/.008 7 strand lines. I know a lighter build would make it even better. Longer lines are then possible.

Misc. info.:
.008" lines are a b**ch and easily kinked or damaged.
Just "assembled" an ARF Baby Clown/will use Novel .049 or.061 as a test bed for playing around with fishing line and knots before I try them on any of my 1/2 planes. Have flown a friends Baby Clown  w/ a Norvel .061 and it is a screamer!!!

Roger

I sport fly Phil C's Lil Hacker 1/2A combat planes with 30# Spectra. There's no discernable difference compared to flying with .008 steel lines.

I can get matching sets of lines by tying fishing rings on the ends. I've tried various knots to attach the rings but I've settled on tying the first ring with a square knot and backing it up with a surgeons knot. I'll finish it off by CAREFULLY burnishing the end with a flame. The first end is free. It's then attached to a fixture. The other end of the line is set out to the desired length and tied to a ring held in a fixture. It's secured again with a square knot and backed up with a surgeons knot.

I fly sport, stunt and combat with Spectra using these rings and knots and haven't had any failures. Pull testing is the 'feels about right' method. The largest model flown with this setup is a throttled 56" biplane with with a 70 Surpass four stroke.

Tying the rings with the square knots first gives you the accurate lengths. Using the surgeons knot only varies the length when drawn tight.

Ara and Mark,
Many thanks for the line and knot info.
The ring idea is neat. Rather than tying knot on line clip which fixes line length, use of the ring(s) allows  changing  various length clips for minor line length adjustments. :-)

I'm glad. I saw the plans when they were first drawn when Buso came over to Windy's when I lived there and I liked the idea very much. I was flying 1/2A Speed with my children and hot new engines were available and thought it would be fun to build one but I don't remember if Buso sold them direct or what. I recall he wanted to kit them or feature it in an article but I must've missed it if it did happen.
I'm glad Moon gave us a picture to look at, they're very cool looking and it's nice to see a good, replica style finished model complete with iconic paint trim.

My plans were in the doorway entrance when I got home a few minutes ago, along with an alignment jig set.  Now to figure out where to put these in the building queue.

Gents-

It looks like Walter isn't going to be able to make the Stiletto kits anytime soon, due to real life priorities.
He feels terrible about this. Maybe it could happen in the future, but for now it is stalled.

What ISN'T stalled, is the plans set with the FIVE planes on them. The PLANS SET IS AVAILABLE!!!

So anyone that is considering building a 1/2 plane of the five models in miniature, should order a set from Walter, and set to building.

I would love to get a set little legend plans but cannot seem to get hold of Walter. Is there anyone that can help me with this?
