Title: Liquidating dad's (Greg Settle) Estate
Post by: Jananne Settle on February 02, 2017, 06:45:24 PM
Hello. First, let me introduce myself. I am Jananne Settle. I am Greg Settle's daughter. My dad died in July 2016 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He died peacefully so I find comfort in that.

My dad was an excellent engine machinist and Control line enthusiasts. I am going through his workroom (the entire basement) and have a lot of new and used items ranging from parts, engines, accessories, etc.

I will be posting classifieds and would love for these items to end up in the hands of those who will value them. It's important to me that my dad's legacy live on with others making use of his inventory.

If you have any suggestions, questions or comments I love to hear from you. If by chance you knew my dad and have a funny story to share, please do!

Sincerely,
Jananne

I am sorry to say I did not know of your Dads passing.  I only knew him from the Denver contests I attended many years ago.  List what you have in the classified section.  I know the Ebay what is chancy on getting what the items may be worth.  As years ago I took on the task of getting what I could get from Mr. Meriwether's estate.  His sons were going to put it all in a dumpster until I talked to him.  Lost count of how many trips I made just hauling the control line items in my big van at the time.

I remember meeting Greg when I flew at the CL contest there, sad to hear of his passing.

when I was in Wichita I helped a family sell off their father in law model airplane collection which was mostly RC. About 1/3 of the material was thrown away and the remaining was taken to an auction and sold off in one weekend. The family had no idea what wing went with what fuselage. I was able to go thru it, we found engines in all sorts of corners in his shop.  it can take awhile to go thru it all to figure out what is worth selling off and should be tossed.

While glow engines are not selling for they use to they are still can be sold.

We had an interesting case here in the St Louis area where a local guy couldn't fly anymore but didn't want to try to sell it off so we was considering throwing it all away....instead he called up our club president and donated all of the airplanes and other stuff to the club. We have been auctioning off the collection and all of the money goes back into the club bank account.

This is exactly what I did with my things. Hopefully the club members can make some use of the items and maybe the club will enjoy some revenue.
