Just to make Tim feel better...
« on: May 19, 2012, 03:04:07 PM »
So, I splatted the Bronze Barbarian today. It was the result of stupidity as it turned out. I forced a hatch and it pushed a piece of plywood away from the fuse side and it looks like it hung up the pushrod resulting in lost of control and sudden deceleration trauma.

It was actually on purpose because I didn't want Tim to feel like the only guy flirting with pavement poisoning.

I have a Flight Streak that someone just up and gave me for nuthin', if you're running low on planes.

You have my condolences -- I was looking forward to seeing that plane.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Well, sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield. I liked the plane a lot and so, the design will likely see the light of day again. Probably with evil electrons powering it. We'll see.

I'll just have to pull one of the 4 back up planes out of the rafters, clean it up and fly that. The White Slider is the most likely candidate. At least it turns out that, with the exception of the prop stud, the engine came through OK. Smart move by Dub Jett to have the spin out stud. A trip to Tacoma Screw should take care of that.

Dang it Homie, the Lowrider. :(

I was thinking of a different one. I don't remember the name, but it didn't have any white on it, kind of a copper(?) with some other swoopy colors too. Bummer either way.

I was there and saw the hit and helped pick up the chaff. The nose was pulverized. A lot of little pieces just blew away in the wind. Repairing the "Hooligan" would take a lot more time than building from fresh scratch.  :'(

I had the controls hang up on the NoblARF #3. It hit on the cylinder head and snapped the mounts off with no other damage. Of course I haven't lost much.

This was pretty much shattered. First plane I've crashed that even the stabilizer was broken. Center section was completely destroyed, the fuse was split all the way down (though those strakes down the side held it together). Good news was, only the stud insert on the engine was damaged. I was using the RO-Jett official 'shaft extension". I put the original setup back on and ran it on the bench yesterday and it seem fine. The pipe came out OK and most of the control system was salvagable, though the elevator horn was toast. Just as well, I guess.

So, the next one will have some changes. That much is certain. And I've decided there will be another one.

Sorry to hear of the demise of the Hooligan. I like the looks of the design.

But heartened that there will be another one!

Well, today I spent 3 hours building a new tank for the Ringmaster Deluxe (that I can actually adjust the height on) and finish covering the Shoestring (except for the flaps and elevators). Joy! Rainy, crappy weather. But I did get a few lines down on a revamp of the Hooligan, to be called the Bronze Barbarian.   ;D

Its ok Randy - the circle is now complete.

We both finished models at the same time with problems afoot.. both ended up in better places.

Howard is casting about for a good hatch to use on his new model. I have been considering suggesting he copy your design in titanium and CF.

Never mind...

Dan,

Hey, I've used that hatch design a several planes and it works fine ... as long as you actually build it correctly; which I didn't in this particular instance.
