Title: Lil Wizard Electric???
Post by: Paul Taylor on August 01, 2024, 02:28:27 PM
I’m thinking about building a Brodak Lil Wizard for my grandson.

Has anyone built one using an electric setup? Maybe on a 2s or 3s battery?

Thoughts and suggestions welcomed.

Not a li'l-wizard, but you might look at this coroplast trainer design from Keith Renecle.  The power system from this plane would likely be appropriate for a wizard.  Chris Cox recently built one of these Saucy trainers for his grandchildren to learn on.  Cool little plane!

We built a couple of Osborn platters for my boys years ago. We also built a 35 size in JYW’s at Brodak’s. Ryan flew it to first place beating Joe Gilbert and Mike Donovan. I told Joe it was the only time we beat him. 🤣
Just wanted to do the Wizard. I had one as a kid. Wanted to go down memory lane while making new memories with my grandson.😎

Paul:

Check with Dennis Adamison.
I think he’s done some small electrics.

There are systems for Baby clown and 1/2a ringmaster in the "List your set up" electric section. Here's one I found:

Wingspan 25 1/4", area 136 sq-in
Weight 10.5 oz
Motor: BP Hobbies 2212-13 Outruner, Kv=1000
ESC: BP Hobbies 20 amp helicopter, in governor mode
Timer: timer replaced by RC throttle control
Battery: Hyperion 3rd generation 3S 850 mah LiPo
Prop: APC 8x8 thin Electric
Line length 40' eye to eye
Lap time 3.7 sec at 7,500 rpm
Static power at 7,500 rpm approximately 150 watts
Flight time: 4 min to keep battery usage to 80%.
Setup will also do 4.3 sec laps on 50' line for 3 min.
