Lew's Dolphin
« on: July 22, 2017, 08:34:58 PM »
   While researching the mystery model for Richard the other day, I came across a view of the plan for Lew McFarland's  Dolphin. It was kitted by Jetco, and I think that is widely known. But it was also published in American Modeler magazine in 1965, the March/April issue I think. They show a plan in the article, but no mention of what page the order form was, like we were used to seeing. I found the add for Hobby Helper's plan service, and it showed two different sets for the other three or four models that were presented, but NOT the Dolphin!  I checked on the AMA web site and their plans service and they show two plans for the Dolphin. One was the Jetco kit plan and the other shows source as American Modeler magazine. Does any body have a copy of the magazine plan or can verify that there was one issued? If so I would like to have a copy for my collection. It was just weird that there was NO mention of the plan in the Hobby Helper's add. But, on the page where the last few paragraphs of the article concluded, at the top was a big add for the dolphin by Jetco! Just another little mystery in the history of the hobby that I would like to know, and it would allow checking the mag plan against the kit plan to see if anything was changed, as kit manufacturers had a habit of doing back then This is a nice, little model that is on my build list. It is a simple, straight forward design that would serve anyone well.
   Thanks in advance,

  Hi Brent;
    I have the magazine with the article. That is how I found out what I do know so far. I also have the kit and the kit plans. I would like to know if the magazine plan actually existed. It is a single sheet plan and the kit plans are two sheets. I have many, many Hobby helpers plans but none from March/April/may of 1965. American Modeler was bi-monthly back then. It should have a plan number like 365, 465 or 565.
   Thanks a lot,
