Im in the market for a 2" Spinner for my Gypsy and really not sure on which is good and which is bad.
Im wanting one of those nice beautiful shiny spinners for it. Ebay is loaded with chinese cnc spinners but not sure if they are consideres good to use.
I love the look of the old Veco spinners but having trouble finding one in 2" that isnt outrageous in price.
Any leads on some that are good and as good looking as the old Veco's?

TruTurn spinners are American made and are great.
A bit pricy.

I believe that Randy still has needle nose spinners...Aeroproducts
Brodak makes "traditional" less pointed spinners, but, alas, work is required to use a flat prop.
Have fun!

Hi James. I have many Froom/Veco aluminum 2 inch spinners. Send me your mailing address and I'll get one off to you. Free. Just use Brasso on them and they get nice and bright, just use cotton gloves when installing them LL~
Actually, if you put the time in using Brasso, aluminum will polish and look like chrome.

No @#$% Sherlock, didn't I say the exact same thing??? 20 years in the Navy, trust me I know how to use Brasso. y1 y1 y1
Good one Ty. We swore by Brasson in the military.

Don't be too nostalgic about those Froom spinners of yore. They are pretty heavy. Nice aluminum spinners are available from Dave Brown Products. They polish up nicely.

I evaluated these before they went into the catalog. Very nicely made with no run-out issues at all.

Bob is right...the Brodak spinners are nicely made, but the prop cuts are for 6-8 pitch props....not modern stunt props.

Randy Smith spinners are "most excellent", IMO. The Brodak spinners are only slightly less wonderful, with a bit different shape. If you build the airplane to fit the spinner, the difference is very slight. But I typically use either Dave Brown or Tru-Turn; either is excellent, but has the single screw in the pointy end and don't look quite as good. Remember that the spinner will probably save your crankshaft at some point, due to...ah, compressibility!
By the way, if you use an "electric finger" a needle nose should have better traction...especially if you use the appropriate starter insert. If you don't use an "electric finger", the needle nose spinner is a knuckle buster and you may come to use harsh words on them. If you can do a "spinner flip", either should work fine. y1 Steve

I don't know about availability now but I use the Great Planes 2" aluminum spinners and their mounting hardware. Decent quality and reasonable priced. I usually polish my stuff with Simichrome or this stuff I got at Oshkosh, the site of the worlds largest collection of aluminum polish vendors!
Tooth paste and even silver polish can work in a pinch.
Type at you later,

Not sure about toothpaste on spinners. But I do use Brasso to brush my teeth. I only have to be careful not to smile in public.
-
James, three on the way. Three different types. so one should do the job. Use what ever polish you desire, even vinegar and sand will do. We used that on the Ships Bell after a few weeks at sea to remove all the verdigris. Then we used Brasso. H^^
You da man Ty. Thanks a ton buddy!!!!

Jared beat me to it just above here but yeah, the Pro-Spin spinners are nice and come with a nice bright polish to them. Quite a few hobby shops carry them too. Be careful not to overtighten the spinner cone on them though as it's pretty easy to warp the backplate, just get it snug and stop.

What is this 'hobby shop' thing that you mention? Is that a place that sells unicorns?

For 2" I use the Brodak spinner with the Great Planes back plate for either Electrics or IC. I polished the spinner with a buffing wheel on a electric drill. I use the brown polishing compound first, then the white, green or blue.. then hand polish the rest of the way with either Mothers Mag polish or something similar.

No kidding Dan, I thought about that as I was typing the reply, the "LHS" is practically a thing of the past anymore. However, my nearest "LHS" which is 100 miles north of me does sell unicorns. y1
