Gentlemen,
Is Leo Mehl still active in Controline?
He was last active on Stunt Hangar in June, 2016.
-
Locals haven't mentioned Leo for some time. I haven't seen him in local contests lately (before our contests were all cancelled).
Leo is only a couple years my senior. I often kidded him saying that I would soon overtake him in years. To my surprise, I haven't yet done so.
-
Haven't heard anything from Scott Riese either. Those two have been hanging out together for a long time.

HELLO! I'm still here. hard to get to the flying field with no car and all the parks here in Portland closed. I'm not doing anything of fun. Had a FEW medical things going on. I haven't picked up a handle over a year. As for LEO I called him yesterday but no answer. HAD a club "ZOOM" meeting that went well. SOOOO....that's my life's story...this week LL~ LL~
Scott ( still thinking) Riese

Thanks, Scott.

Was thinking of asking Scott Reise about Leo. Good to hear from you Scott. I remember my cousin saying only place she goes is to the grocery store & the Doctor. I was in to see the Doctor early April & was in and out untill mid October... was getting monotonous.
Hope all is well , John L.

Well, I guess that Leo is still around; but He hasn't been on this board for 3 1/2 years. As you guys may (or may not) know, I'm the moderator for the "In Memory Of Our Friends" forum. I've spent some time organizing the forum, and have noticed a large number of members who have not been active in years.
It makes me wonder if they are inactive, or have passed away.

In December 2018 a Portland, Oregon TV station reported that Leo was reunited with a bicycle of his that had been stolen some months prior.
https://www.koin.com/news/human-interest/man-87-reunited-with-stolen-2700-bike/
Leo was 87 at the time, but still managed to cycle remarkably long distances and would occasionally put photos from his rides on facebook. He was very into bikes - the one stolen was valued at $2,700. Someone tried to sell the stolen bike at an auto shop for $60. The shop owner bought it and contacted police. It was returned to Leo.
His last facebook post was in September 2018, then later there was some question of whether his account had been hacked.
I hope Leo is still doing okay. Richard Entwhistle or Dave Royer might know more as they fly at Delta Park.

I don't think anyone can determine a person's status by observing flying field activity. Not much going on in this weather.
De. I'll let you know when it's time to include me in "In Memory Of..."
-
Floyd,
How are you going to contact me to tell me that you are gone?
-
I just did a search for Leo Mehl and found one in Portland Oregon. Station KOIN had a report of $2700.00 bike returned to 87 year old Leo Mehl in 2018. I remember at VSC he would watch Sandy for me when I would fly. I think in one of the messages I got from years ago he stated he had property in Montana also and would ride his bicycles a lot. Didn't do a search of the Portland obituaries. He was a real nice gentleman and sent me plans of his plane in which I built one. I also know he was older than me back then. D>K

Scott, good to see you here again! You've done some terrific mufflers for me - still at it? Someone was looking for a tongue muffler for the Fox 15X a few months back, you did a very nice one for me.

De Hill. Go ahead and put my name in your column. I'm already 87 1/2 so a little early won't hurt. It will save time.
(but my dad lived 93 years, so maybe I should reconsider my offer)
-
Before I do that, would you write your obituary and post it here?
It would save a lot of time.
(Now that's what you call gallows humor)
