I got a text from Steve Moon this morning stating that the Lee's Inn in Muncie is closed do to foreclosure. It was not the nicest place to stay but it was fun and a lot of the guys I hang with at the Nats stayed there as well. We now have to find a new place that will tolerate the group of us for a reasonable price.

More importantly they will need to have a beer tree.

It was that beer bush.........

Wow, that's crazy! Lees was part of the nats experience.
-
I'd bet that within a month or two it's reopened under "new management" with a "new owner" and it will be open for business under a "new name" before summer.
-
Is the old Ramada inn or what it has become still open ?

I wonder if my reservation will still be good? LOL

If you chose the Ramada, go heavily armed with tyvek outer wear and latex gloves!
-
What about the Signature Inn? A bit pricey, but clean & comfortable.....at least it was when I stayed there, 2006-07-08.
-
Lotsa places in Anderson to stay... LL~
-
I used to stay at Signature, then it went way downhill. Then moved to Lee's Inn. OK for a while and then it went downhill as well.
Started staying at Comfort Inn. MUCH better than Signature or Lee's. A little more costly but worth it.
There's always the Hampton.

Lee's was a SUPER-good deal for the price. Sure the carpet was bit faded, but they let my dog in.
I often got the idea they were selling below cost and the result was as I feared.

Too bad we can't have the college dorms or even ole army barracks like quite a few NATS had. The college dorms in Dayton, 76 were great and those in Chickopee weren't too bad. Remember the boys getting ready for a shower in Lincoln and went to the floor for the men and a lady was already taking a shower.

I started out going to Lee's but I stopped when it started smelling funky.

Any one been to the Days Inn lately? My last stay the bed spread had ahole the size of my foot in it... the owner is just taking the profits or at least was.

The Moons and the Barry's will be staying at the Baymont Inn which use to be the Signature. Maybe Baymont made some improvements when they took over? It will just be Dad, Gavin, and I this year so the quality is only slightly an issue. Nothing is worse than the last couple years at the Ramada that was near to the AMA site. The last 2 times we stayed the pool was a murky green color and half of the rooms had been closed. I think a drug bust happened next door someone we know. I remember when we first started going to Muncie the Ramada was "the place" to be. Everyone hung out in the gazebos and next to the pool, you could walk from door to door and hang out with most of the people who were flying stunt, it was just a great time. I miss those days.

Just hope the Iron Man competition is not the same week this time. The Baymont and Days both 'forgot' mine and quite a few other reservations when they could charge more for others....
-
Dad discovered that if you ask for the weekly rate you will get a better deal. I think we are paying $49 per night for the first five days and $71 for the weekend at the end. It still came out to be around $500.

Just set my reservation at Days Inn. 10 nights for $604 w/tax. Not too bad.

I saw the Holiday Inn Express rooms when I picked up Bill Rich for dinner one night and those were nice clean modern rooms... I was impressed, especially compared to the run-down Lees Inn with the funky smell...
If you go for the Holiday Inn, tell them you want the Academy Model Aeronautics Rate $85 night for a King room, don't say AMA, I almost didn't get the rate until I spelled it out for them. They didn't have a clue what AMA was... I think it's because Holiday uses a central call center for all the hotels, you are not talking to Muncie.

I have gone to the Holiday Inn Express several times and it's just fine. And they have the conveyor belt pancake machine.

Will you be there this year?

In theory, no, I will be at the Comfort Inn/Suites with that Fitzgerald guy. Lots of things might interfere with that, however.

One morning when we were there, my grandfather decided to try out the pancake machine. He was expecting instant pancakes and couldn't figure out why they weren't coming out. So he kept pressing the button to make more...by the end of that, he had 8 pancakes to eat.
Don't think we'll be there this year unless something major happens. It will be Brodak instead, not that that's anything to complain about.

Dave,
The Ironman is the Sat before compitition starts so there will be some people there on Sun, I'm sure.
See U there
-
Might be a high incidence of bicycle flat tires thereabouts this year........just sayin'
Dave
See ya Andrew!

Is the Comfort better than the Holiday Inn Express?

It amazes me how people worry about a motel when they are only going to be in the room long enough to shower and go to bed. One of the most comfortable motels I stayed in was the Doll House in Vincennes IN. I got the last single room. 10 nights for only $180.00. The daughter wants me to go to the NATS this year so she has a ride to Indianapolis. Still arguing with her about that. I know of motels out side of town that may take 30 minutes to drive but may be worth it.

So much for hot hotel breakfast.
