As winter has had it's grip on the Midwest it will be great to see the sun and feel some 70's & 80's. My spirit really needs this week, then I'm sure I can make it till Indiana gets some like weather. Oh yal, it will be nice to see all my friends and do a little flying #^ #^ #^ . By for now.

I wish I was leaving for VSC. ::snivel, snivel::
-
Randy: If you have the snivels you really should stay at home and rest. n1
Bob Hunt
I was going to post something similar to Randys lament,, kinda glad I let him take the fall,,
after VSC last year, I really wanted to go again, alas, its not to be this year,,
-
sorry to hear that guys because...THIS IS THE YEAR! (leaving Monday). 8)
-
I left Sequim on Sunday and stopped in Durango, Colorado for a dip in the hot
tub on the way.
We're leaving for Phoenix/Tucson tomorrow AM' looking forward to some
warmer/dry weather.
Rex
-
Good luck Rex. And everyone else - hopefully the wind will be low and the sun high.
-
Weather forecast is looking good so far: mid-to-high 80s thru Wed., dropping to the 70s for several days after that. No word yet on winds, though. With any luck, it'll remain calm or reasonably so.
-
To ALL VSC goers, please don't forget the cameras and pics!!! y1 y1 y1

I sit here at the computor thinking I should have been in Tucumcari NM eating breakfast and making the last half of the trip to Tuscon. But, not to be this year. So give all the ladies a hug from the old DOC, especially Rikki Pyatt the zany one. And don't forget the pictures.
-
Wow, seems there's a bunch of guys (me included) not going this year. Sorry to be missing this one, too. The economy sucks and I spent too much money on another hobby to make it.
Can't believe Doc isn't going.
-
What!?, there are other hobbies besides C/L model airplanes?...why wasn't I made aware of this? 8)
-
I'm missing this year also. I have some health issues, hopefully being resolved.
-
Get back when you can.

I go through withdrawals at VSC time and Nats time. Is their any info on who has arrived in Tucson ???
Pictures, Please!!!!!!
-
I will probably be there next year. Just not in the cards right now.
I will look forward to many pictures.
-
A few pic's on practice day' mild wind and bright sun.
Most of the circles were busy for about three hours.
I didn't get the camera going until I had the lap time tuned in on my plane.
It seems to fly a bit faster at 42 Deg F at seal level with the 15% nitro.
My final mixture was 20% nitro @80 Deg in Tucson (2500 ft).
-
Thanks for the pictures, keep us updated
-
Yes, I miss being there with all the great people. Spent yesterday replacing steps on the front porch and working on a fun plane. Keep the pictures coming.
-
Thanks for the pics.
What airplane is PW flying and what is his power?
-
Tom,
It's not one of Paul's planes. Someone who sees the pix may be able to figure it out.
Paul was flying Don McClave's Smoothie today.
More pix from OTS Day 1
-
A few more pix (I exceeded the limit). PW was also flying a Skylark today.
-
That's PW's Skylark (SL_01.jpg) with ama #30702 and "Skylark" in a semi-circle. I'm pretty sure it's the same one he's had for ages, Sterling kit version, McCoy .40 with no muffler. It's metallic red, not orange, like Rex's pictures appear. Good to see that Paul got to go to Tucson. y1 Steve
-
Awesome, thanks for the pics! y1

Thanks for the great pics of the planes and the people I am missing. By the way, how are the numbers as far as entries??

I E mailed Paul about his beautiful new Electric ride...and YES! THAT IS HIS BEAUTIFUL OLD CLASSIC with the unmuffled Mc 40 that he was practicing with today.
LOL! PERHAPS THAT IS WHY SO MANY OF US OLD CLPA GRUNTS ARE SO HARD OF HEARING...due to so many years of flying without mufflers in our golden youth years! Paul did mention that noise was pretty pretty pretty INTENSE~^^ LL~
-
The second day of OTS still has good weather:
More Pix (per your request). The T_Trainer was extremely well finished.
The PA plane that Paul was tuning on Monday was a Shark 45.
-
thanks for the pictures Rex,, today was appearace judging for classic right?

Thanks for the pics, please keep 'em coming.
Did Jim Lee make the trip?
-
Jim Lee flew in ignition and glow OTS.
I don't know about classic.
-
Jim has not flown Classic for some time now. I seen in the other post he is bringing home the first place trophy for ignition. Congrats Jim. And hasn't Keith worn out that Bearcat yet? I love the little Swee Pea, who's is it. Also thanks for the great pics.
-
Day Two of Classic. We just finished as the wind came up :
-
the AMA # on the Sweet Pea is Keith's
-
Keith's Swee' Pea (1948 'Mechanix Illustrated') was built as an eye-catching OTS contender. Unfortunately, the flight performance didn't work out - and yet it's a real beauty. He was kind enough to bring it out for display after I nagged him a few times.

what did keith fly in old time

Same white and blue "Big Job".

Thanks for the pictures, Rexy.
-
Again thanks for the great pics of the planes and guys. Miss seeing them in person. With the snow storm predictions, it might be a good thing I didn't go to VSC.
-
Thanks for all the great pics!
-
It all winds down on the last day....
Of course, PW never lets up......
-
Attendance was down, and the two Avengers were sorely missed as I-beamer award candidates.
-
Again thanks for the pics for those of us that stayed home for some reason or other. I could sure use those tire chains right now. Anyway I hope everyone has a safe trip home.
-
Let's have a bit more on the biplane leaving Tucson!
Floyd
(owner and restorer of Focke-Wulf 44J)
-
Floyd,
The Biplane is a Stearman that belongs to Mike Mason (grandson of Sammy Mason "Checkers").
He lives down the street from me in Sequim. We took aerial shots of my house (the blue one) in Sequim
from the biplane. He was, in fact, at the VSC in Tucson 3 years ago and a modeler had a beautiful
scale Checkers there for him to see.
He offers aerobatic flight training as well as wing walking lessons. Website : http://www.westcoastspindoctors.com/
-
Looks like you live closer to Carlsbad or Dungeness? Looking north you could probably see where my Grandfathers farm was.
-
CLC was back at VSC? That's great news! y1 Steve

Attendance was down, and the two Avengers were sorely missed as I-beamer award candidates.
Rex, I speak for me and My Avenger,, we wanted to be there,, just not to be this year, I really enjoyed last year but I need an airplane that is lighter than mine,, time will tell, maybe next year. Thanks for keepin us updated,,
-
Mark,
That may be true. The first thing I noticed at Tucson is that the engine looses a lot of power, partly due
to altitude and partly due to the higher temperatures in Sequim.
But the more subtle problem is that high wing loading can be a real problem because you loose a lot of lift.
Your props are less effective as well. Gordon is the real expert at high altitude planes.

It was a great contest with lots of old friends, good to get together. I thought the weather was excellent, (that's coming from someone who returned home to 8 in's. of snow). Our time at the motel just hanging out was as much fun. Robert Harness Sr. & Jr., with wives, Scott Harness, Roger Wildman and Mike McHenry. Nice to chat with Paul W., Don Mc., and many more that stooped by our tables outside the room. Some of the stories were true, but when you have been to as many contest as most of us have, we forget some of the important facts. Lots of laughs.
Hats off to all the people that made this contest a big success, and to the people behind the scene. Here are just a few of my picture, enjoy.
Blessings
