Last update on Bob Whitely
« on: October 06, 2009, 03:43:50 PM »
Well all our prayers have worked. Bob is now home from the hospital. Much sooner than expected for sure. He is doing very very well. Now we all just have to convince him to follow all the doctors orders and follow the correct diet for his heart.  Anyway, I am sure he is looking forward to hearing from any and all who wish to contact him. So you all are on your own. Won't need my updates anymore. Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes for Bob.

Thank you Jo For all the up dates we have all been following . Yeah now comes the hard part , Change ! . You find that he cant eat almost anything already perpared like soup's ,TV dinners all loaded with salt . They do have the healthy choice stuff. Salt is east to give up actually . you will not miss it.

As for quiting smoking ........uh not so easy.  Hope fully he will take advantage of not smoking for the last 4 days. That is the hardest part of quiting ! the first few days . If he can run with this start he is on his way ! May never get a better chance to quit . I hope he can stay with it.

If not and he already burned one , well not the end of the world either . That will mean he is on day one again. Toss all smokes now . Out of site out of mind . For me I had to chew the gum for months . The gum was some help but might be dangours too. The best was to get Halls menthol's cherry or lemon . Those cough drops make it feel like you are taking a hit kind of helped me when you get the urges.

Good luck and God Bless see you at the circle

He is going to have urges . Weather he reacts to them or responds to them is the key . They will pass either way . Its difficult so many triggers to smoke . seeing someone light one up even in a movie will do it. Getting in to the car Is an other one . Point is don't react to the urge . get out the cough drops and make it through that urge . Make it just for one hour at a time until you put together one day at a time .

I imagine Bob has enough guys/gals to keep him on track.  Will know when I get to VSC 2010.

As Greg has stated, smoking is the hard one.  I quit twice and am still quiting after 20 years.  Couldn't work on airplanes for a year as I kept reaching for where the weeds used to be.  Gal at work gave me a sack of black licorice to chew on when I got the urge to go outside.  Also there was no smoking in the building at work.

Anyway I think Bob will make it and also find out how much better food tastes.  Have fun and follow DOCTOR'S orders.  DOC Holliday
